  • Family-run site on a smallholding with views out over Dartmoor’s tors
  • Just outside the national park, half an hour’s drive from Bude’s beach
  • Animals to meet on site; alpaca trekking trips close by
Deliberating over where to stay in Dartmoor? Make your way to Mount Pleasant Farm, a compact but well-formed site with terrific views across the national park’s tors. Pull up a pew at one of the picnic benches dotted around the grounds to eye up said hills or take in the vistas as you grill up grub in the barbecue areas. These alfresco cooking spaces are surrounded by an island of grass for the dogs to run off-leash, so you can get them out from under your feet as you whip up a meal. Speaking of animals, there are plenty of these at the grounds. The farm is home to a smattering of chickens, geese, peacocks, rabbits and sheep, as well as ducks that guests are welcome to feed. Stroll up the road to amble with a troupe of alpacas too (trekking trips with these furry creatures are available). Set quarter of a mile off the main road, Mount Pleasant Farm – a restful spot circled by woods and bridleways for wandering – is as peaceful as it sounds. For refuelling on return from your hikes, pick up food and drinks at a village shop under 10 minutes’ drive away in Halwill and keep everything cool in the shared fridge on base. For meals out, a local pub is around the same distance, plus plenty of eateries are in Bude, half an hour’s drive away and your gateway to gorgeous beaches on the north Devon coast.

If you have children they have rabbits all kind of birds a nice field for kids to run about on as long as there are not to many tents on the field 😁. Toliets clean as well as shower room . Pitches are good size hardstanding electric and water .. honestly I could of stayed another night there so if your looking for a few nights or a stop off I highly recommend mount pleasant 👍👍👍

Electric gravel and hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Friendly, Clean facilities, big pitches, well lit at night, nice rural location

Disliked: No Wi-Fi (which is advertised) Not much space for children to play without disturbing other visitors. Loose dogs got into our tent (this was rectified, owner very apologetic and polite)

From the manager: Dear Danielle, We are sorry you did not find your stay with us to your satisfaction and always try to go above and beyond to cater to all of our visitors needs, you mentioned in your comments regarding WiFi we do have WiFi available on site however for obvious reasons does not cover the entire 7 acres of the property, however had we been aware you were in need of a connection we would of advised you of the areas in which WiFi is free and available to all visitors on site. We are a family run business who caters especially for our visitors with young children by providing them the opportunity to feed, handle and learn about several different animals, we provide several outdoor toys and a large enclosed grassed field alongside and entirely in view of the pitches, bathrooms picnic tables and BBQ area which most guest find a more than safe adequate area where their children can play and be as loud or energetic as children want to be on holidays. Regarding the incident with the dog entering your tent we do recognise this was an error on our part ( Very excitable puppy who managed to escape his lead and go on an adventure of his own!) and had hoped we had recompensed you suitibly with the refund of a night of your vacation, a selection of farm produce and of course a girls best friend a giant bar of chocolate however if there is anything more you feel we could of done we would of course like to hear from you as feedback is extremely important to us and it is only by gaining this we are able to build on the great service we already offer by making each and every visitor have an exceptional time during their stay with us and of course come back and see us more than once. I hope you and your girls managed to enjoy your holiday to its fullest extent up to the last night when you were rudely disturbed by an over friendly puppy of course and would love you to give us another chance should it ever meet your holiday requirements.

Local attractions

Fan of fishing? Set off for the lush lakes at Anglers Paradise. Prefer archery? Hit the bullseye at the Arms of Old centre (both 10 minutes’ drive). Or how about hiking? Head to Roadford Reservoir (15 minutes), the largest freshwater area in England's south west, for strolls and watersports. Bikes? Off to the traffic-free Tarka Trail with you (pick it up 10 minutes away in Okehampton). For town times, there’s Launceston (25 minutes), the ancient capital of Cornwall with its castle and a steam railway, as well as Tavistock (half an hour), a canalside ancient stannary settlement that claims to be the home of the cream tea. Try this traditional Devon dessert then bound over to Bude for swims at the sea pool followed by sunbathing in front of the pastel-coloured beach huts (half an hour). Thrill-seekers could organise a surfing lesson on one of the beaches – a top pick is the sandy Summerleaze – or stay dry while dashing around the dodgems at Dingles Fairground Heritage Centre (20 minutes). Keep the fun times going for the kids with outings to The BIG Sheep and The Milky Way Adventure Park – both 45 minutes' drive away and fab for family days out. Grownups may prefer the more leisurely pleasures of RHS Rosemoor and Dartington Crystal (both half an hour).
