  • Peaceful rural glamping site 20 minutes' drive from Holsworthy
  • A 15-minute drive from coast path; 20 from North Devon beaches
  • Dog-friendly pods with mini kitchen, heating and barbecue
Craving an outdoor hol but don’t want to stay under canvas? Enter a nifty solution: the smart pods at Glamping Lane End, a spacious and family-friendly site in a peaceful part of rural north Devon. The accommodation here is fully insulated, with underfloor heating to keep things toasty whatever the weather, and each unit is kitted out with a mini kitchen (including a small fridge, kettle and electric points) plus a barbecue area for getting grub on the go. A short stroll away is a purpose-built bathroom block with a shower, toilet and washing-up area. Campfires being an essential part of outdoor adventures, they’re welcome here at the communal firepit, and logs can be purchased on site so there’s no need to lug them along with you (in fact, as so many things are sorted here, you just need to deal with bedding, towels, food and those little touches that make your world complete. Curlers, teddy bear, comfy slippers… whatever makes you feel at home). Dogs can come along for the ride too – there’s a small wooded area close to the pods where they can be let off the leash to do their thing; please keep them on a lead and under control elsewhere around the site, though, and don’t let them get their paws on the soft furnishings. Folk planning to see the area from the saddle might like to head out for bike rides nearby on the Tarka Trail and Ruby Trail; walkers, meanwhile, can access the South West Coast Path around 15 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

North Devon has all sorts of attractions and activities to please even the pickiest travellers, from the offbeat – think The Gnome Reserve and Wildflower Garden (five minutes’ drive) – to the typical beach days out at sandy spots like Westward Ho! (25 minutes). If budding astronauts are holidaying with you, give them a gleeful time on the rides at the Milky Way Adventure Park (10 minutes). Farmers in the making, meanwhile, might prefer the amusements at the animal-themed Big Sheep. Looking for low-key family days out? Take on the Tarka Trail walking and bike path from Bideford (15 minutes) or lie back on your towel while the tiddlers play in the rockpools at Mouthmill beach (20 minutes). Sticking with water-based activities, head for Clovelly fishing village (15 minutes) and wander around the cute quay before jumping on a boat tour to Lundy island.

Green camping pod

Liked: When driving up the drive you can immediately tell how well the site is maintained. The grounds are lovely and really well looked after. The ponds and wooded area were an added extra to explore. The camp store had lots of extras like games and books and there's a washing machine, freezer and microwave. There aren't too many plots and there's plenty of space between them, so even when full, there's still lots of room for families to play. The glamping pod was perfect and had everything we needed for our stay. The added extras like tea and coffee and milk in the fridge, charcoal and firelighters in the BBQ, were a great touch. There are 2 toilet blocks. The one closest to our camping pod included a toilet cubicle, dish wash area and shower room (with plenty of hot water) and was always kept clean. Yes there's a few creepy crawlies in there but that's to be expected! However, make use of the torch in your pod if you go for a wee in the middle of the night it's lovely and dark! We made use of the fire pit and even cooked dinner on it one night and sitting under the canopy of the green pod while it rained, meant we enjoyed the peaceful surroundings but managed to keep dry. Lane end camping is in a great spot for exploring surrounding areas . We visited Bude, Hartland Quay, Clovelly, Appledore, Westward Ho and Bideford, all over 4 days. We had dinner at the nearby Bradworthy Inn and had a takeaway from Wayside Chinese in Kilkhampton, all of which we would recommend! Honestly couldn't fault it and would definitely recommend Lane End. We cannot wait to return.

From the manager: Bec, thank you so much for your glowing review! We are thrilled you enjoyed it so much here and in the surrounding area. There is alot to explore nearby; we are quite central so you can reach the fartherst corners of Devon, Somerset and Cornwall in a day if you want to. Thank you for mentioning so much in your review as I am sure other potential guests will value that information. Hope to see you again!

Green camping pod

Liked: Like everything! Stayed in Glamping Pod which was really clean & well kitted out. The tea, coffee, milk & fresh flowers were such a lovely touch. The showers were hot, communal areas tidy and well stocked. They really thought of everything. Being a small site it was nice & quiet. The dog liked the woodland walk and having plenty of space to fetch his ball.

Liked: Like isn’t a strong enough word for me, absolutely loved our time at Glamping Lane End!! Owners were lovely!! There if you needed them but also gave you your privacy!! Also, their 2 dogs were lovely and very patient with our 5 month old puppy (thank you!!). We will definitely be back! Highly recommended to anyone who loves a bit of glamping!!

Disliked: Sorry, I didn’t want to put any thing in here but I do think the 2 cabins should have their own fire pits. However, this did help with making friends with our neighbours!!
