Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: I liked the small size (only 6 tents), the place is very quiet with animals nearby in the farm. A small play area with trampolines. Also it was nice to have the table and bench outside the tent. Great location with 10/15 minutes drive to more beaches.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The location is absolutely beautiful, like staying in your own little private valley, with a babbling brook and miniature ponies and alpacas to keep you company. It couldn’t be more lovely. The facilities are also excellent and well suited to the number of guests, which is limited so you never feel like your fellow campers are on top of you. You are also close to some of the best beaches in the UK and in Ilfracombe you easily can find whatever it is you forgot to bring on your trip.

Disliked: The campsite has quite a lot of rules, some of which didn’t feel necessary, and in the fine tradition of English hospitality, occasionally made us feel like our presence was a bit of an inconvenience. The country Lane which runs by the side of the site is also surprisingly noisy, with quite a lot of heavy farm traffic passing by and locals on route to Barnstaple.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely peaceful campsite with great facilities. Lovely hosts and bonus pizza night! We loved the spacing of the tents and campfire hire. Lots of lovely touches such as wet suit rack to dry them off after a day at the beach.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location - superb location very close to woolacombe (11mins googlemaps) and all the delights of the northcoast and Exmoor. General feel - its a small site and very attractive with very short grass pitches divided by banks of long grass and wildflowers and surrounded by a natural slightly wild hedge. It's clean and neat while still feeling rustic. Small size - I loved the small size just 6 pitches plus a few huts in the adjacent field. Facilities - clean flush toilets and showers, plus washing up sinks with drinking water in a rustic wooden cabin. The basics as you would expect for a small rustic site but very clean and the showers are good and hot. Wetsuit drying rack and washing lines - simple. Just a wooden beam and some rope lines but handy. No cars by pitches - adds to the charm and there are trolleys to ferry kit from your car. Plus its a small site so its not far. Firepits supplied - logs can be bought from the farm house.

Disliked: No real dislikes. Pitches weren't super level but as good as most places I've been, better than some and not enough to be a problem.

Local attractions

Surf's up almost everywhere round here, and even when it isn't, an abundance of beaches broad and sandy, rocky and secluded, safe and wild are all around: it's a 10-minute trip from the site to Woolacombe Sands and Tunnels beaches, and around 20 minutes to Lee Bay and Croyde Bay. If you prefer exploring on foot or bike, you're well placed to join the Tarka Trail, a 32-mile nature route passing through the locations in Henry Williamson's famed novel, or the 105-mile Dartmoor-to-Plymouth challenge of the Devon Coast-to-Coast. Head down into Bideford (half an hour) and catch a boat out to Lundy Island, for spotting seals and puffins and walking through a protected Atlantic wilderness. For further encounters with nature, a mix of live and animated beasts is at Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park (15 minutes) and a pair of rare black leopards are among the attractions at Exmoor Zoo (20 minutes). Half an hour away, The Big Sheep is perhaps the world's only sheep-themed amusement and farm park, while the Milky Way (45 minutes) combines thrill rides and slides with birds of prey shows. The North Devon AquaPark and WakePark is right next door to the Milky Way, for all manner of watery antics at speed.
