  • Private bell tent on an eco-friendly smallholding with animals
  • A 20-minute drive from Dartmoor and 35 minutes from the north coast
  • Well-stocked kitchenette and access to a football table on site
Dig into this ultra-tempting bell tent break in Devon. Norton Moor View Camping is a private bell tent on an eco-friendly smallholding. With animals in sight and a friendly vibe, this is a splendid spot for a family getaway indeed. Add to that outdoor activities in Dartmoor National Park 20 minutes’ drive away or activities on the north Cornwall coast 35 minutes’ drive away, and things are looking mighty fine itinerary wise too… This farm camping experience is 15 minutes’ drive away from a farm shop, play area and café venue. Source all the fresh ingredients you fancy, because the site’s bell tent has a kitchenette stocked up with cutlery, plates, mugs, cups, tea and coffee, a mini fridge, kettle, toaster and a microwave oven. The bell tent has its own paddock based on a friendly smallholding and it’s safe to say it’s a stunning spot, with views of Dartmoor, wildlife and animals. The off-grid stay isn’t without a few creature comforts either. The spacious tent has a kingsize wooden bed, two folding chair beds for kids and room for a travel cot if you want to bring along your own. When it’s time to scrub up for dinner, there’s a shower in the bathroom (available for an extra charge). If you have any time to spare in between, head to the dedicated rest area, which has a sofa, extra camping chairs and a football table in a shared barn. The owners also use this space for storage.

Local attractions

Kick off the day with a peaceful stroll or cycle in Witherdon Wood (five minutes’ drive). You might want to save most of your energy for a visit to Roadford Lake (10 minutes), where the watersports options include sailing, kayaking and canoeing (followed by a cake and coffee in the café, perhaps). There’s plenty more around for active types, whether it’s grabbing a hire bicycle from Sourton (20 minutes) and tackling Dartmoor’s bridleways and country lanes or trying the coastal hikes and surf in north Cornwall coast locations like Bude (35 minutes). Bude is a dream for family-friendly days out, as is Trethorne Leisure Park (20 minutes), which has a climbing wall, pony riding activities and bumper cars. Picnic bits or packed lunch ingredients – or indeed, days dedicated to trying foodie specialities – can easily be found in the market towns of Okehampton (25 minutes) and Launceston (15 minutes) too.
