  • Communal firepit and dog exercise area; lots of wildlife to spot
Fishleigh Barton Camping is a family-run farm with gorgeous views over the green Taw Valley in North Devon, and with easy access from the A377. The owners are experienced and enthusiastic motorhomers and like to think they’ve learnt a little about what makes an enjoyable stay. This site is situated near to lots of attractions but still far enough away to ensure you'll get some well-earned peace and quiet. If you don’t feel like venturing out, spend the day on the farm keeping an eye out for wildlife including deer and buzzards, or walk down the lane to the River Taw where you might see a kingfisher or heron. Facilities on site include mains water (two taps), two flushing toilets, a shower, a washing-up area and a chemical disposal point, plus a dog walking area and communal firepit (firewood sourced from the farm is available to buy on site). Please note that although barbecues are allowed they must be in the area designated for the campfire/firepit; don’t light fires in the camping field because there is a fire risk to the adjoining crops. The hot shower is an eco shower heated by solar thermal tubes (it's clever tech, and the team are happy to explain how it works if you’re interested…) This site is part of a busy working farm, so it’s a place that’s properly rural rather than neat and tidy all around (the owners suggest that if you like things highly manicured you’ll be better off elsewhere). Umberleigh (five minutes’ drive) and Barnstaple (15 minutes) are close by for handy amenities like shops and pubs.

Taw View electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Small, friendly campsite, just off A road separated by a field, so Road noise was minimal. Well situated for local National Trust sites & beaches, see campsite website for suggestions. There's a Texaco petrol station with a good selection Londis shop just up the road, which sells pastys made at the campsite, and The Rising Sun pub is a 5 min drive away that does good food. There is also a pizza van opposite the pub every Wednesday. Good phone signal on 3.

Disliked: Only 6 Amp power on site & pitch needed levels. Warning, severe pot holes on entrance.

Electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked: The weather when I stayed was awful but Emma had moved my pitch so I was close to facilities and on hard ground. Emma was really friendly and helpful. Site is off the beaten track, which I prefer, but within a short drive of most places you’d like to visit.
