  • Grass meadow on the outskirts of Broadmayne village in rural Dorset
  • A 25-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast and 10 minutes to Dorchester
  • Lots of safe space for kids to play; 10-minute walk to a pub and shops
Looking to really, really get back to nature? Well, this may be the spot for you. Chalk Meadow is a secluded grass paddock site on the outskirts of the sleepy Dorset village of Broadmayne. Facilities are minimal (just loos and hot showers) and there’s no electricity, but that’s part of its rural charm. Couples, families and well-behaved dogs – all are welcome here, for relaxing country breaks mooching across the fields. And if you want to get out exploring, there’s plenty to do for everybody. You can walk to Osmington White Horse in 45 minutes, and if you’re looking forward to splashing around in the sea with the kids, you’ve got the choice of Chesil (25 minutes), Preston and Ringstead (both 15 minutes) beaches. Get set to spark up the barbecue on site (just remember to bring your own) as it’s an easy 10-minute walk to Broadmayne to stock up on supplies in the convenience stores. Don’t want to cook? No worries – there’s a pub in the village too. For bigger shopping trips, the lively market town of Dorchester (10 minutes' drive) is your best bet, and you’ll probably want to stay a while to poke around its markets, museums and Thomas Hardy's Cottage (15 minutes).

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Absolutely stunning location, very peaceful and quiet and Jim the campsite owner does a fantastic job. The facilities are basic but extremely well kept, the showers lovely and hot and a great little washing up area is provided too. We had a lovely evening in the meadow area at the top of the field and can’t wait to go back again. It’s a basic campsite done well and any problems I’m sure Jim would sort them out for you.

Liked: For a pop up camp site it had good facilities. Jim the owner was very helpful. A short walk to the Black dog pub. A lovely weekend had by all.

Disliked: Just one thing really, there was only one washing up sink for the number of people on the site

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The peaceful and quiet site. Jim was very friendly and welcoming. I walked along the coast path and through some other camping sites which resembled a festival site from hell, chaos, tents packed together, feral kids, loud music. And realised I’d picked a gem of a site. Thank you Jim absolute pleasure staying at your site. noisey, chaos
