  • Rural site in Dorset overlooking open countryside by an old Roman road
  • A quarter of an hour's drive from Maiden Castle and Abbotsbury
  • Barbecues and dogs welcome; wheelchair-accessible facilities
Hardyes Countryside Camping is a pop-up site overlooking open Dorset countryside. Set in a convenient location just off the old Roman road that runs between Maiden Castle and Eggardon hillforts, this laidback spot has far-reaching views due south over the Hardy Monument and great access to several adjoining cross-country walking trails. This small site has purpose-built toilets and showers, a washing-up area, a gas barbecue and microwave for cooking, and plenty of space available for pitching up; all facilities are wheelchair-accessible too. Hardyes Countryside Camping also welcomes well-behaved dogs throughout the camping season, and permits barbecues as long as you're sensible with them. Hardyes Countryside Camping is about five miles to the west of Dorchester, where you'll come across a historic town centre, a railway station, supermarkets and a variety of interesting museums. The ancient hillfort at Maiden Castle (15 minutes' drive) is also within easy reach and is an excellent place to see sweeping views over the local countryside. Hardyes Countryside Camping is also around a quarter of an hour's drive from the Jurassic Coast. Abbotsbury, an attractive village at the end of shingly Chesil Beach, is 20 minutes away, while it'll take you roughly 25 minutes to get to the golden sands and seafront amusements of Weymouth.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely stunning park. The facilities were always clean and plentiful The additional facilities for dogs and the places we could take her in were amazing There is a bus stop right on the outskirts of the park making it simple for travel We will definitely be returning

Disliked: The only thing which could be improved on is the wifi- on wet and rainy days the lack of wifi in the touring pitches made things awkward - some extenders would not go amiss

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Everything about the site. Good location, toilet block and showers nice and clean. Chris was really helpful and working incredibly hard as it was so busy

Disliked: Water was sometimes a little cold and occasionally had to put water down the toilet to flush it but signs were put up and it was fixed pretty quickly. So not really an issue.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The owner chris alw about to sort any problems, Compactness, not too many pitches, fairly central for the Jurassic coast. No road noise at night time. Probably great for star gazing as no light pollution (take a head light/ torch, unfortunately we had a wet weekend so loads of cloud cover. Toilet/Shower block basic but very clean. I think the site is a ongoing up grade .

Disliked: Not so much a dislike but future information, The whole site is on the side of a hill so the site is on a slope.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Chris was extremely helpful and made sure we had everything we needed along with lots of knowledge on where to visit

Disliked: The pitches were small (only 1-2m between tents) and site was overbooked over the weekend meaning facilities were stretched. (Would stay again but not at the weekend)

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Chris, manages the site, is excellent. He is ready to help to make your stay worthwhile and enjoyable. Clean toilets, showers, and wash areas. Electric hook ups available for convenience. Good value for money and one of the best camp site to explore Dorset area, McDonald’s nearby, good mobile signal for your own internet tariffs and calls as there are campsite in other areas with poor connectivity. Sweeping views of rolling hills. Sun flower farm nearby. Quiet and safe area, away from main roads

Disliked: No fridge
