  • Dog-friendly pop-up site a mile from Lyme Regis, with valley views
  • A five-minute drive from the beach, museums and the Cobb harbour
  • Watersports, shops, pubs and restaurants within walking distance
From ringo rides just off the shore of Lyme Regis to fossil-hunting tours down at the beach… the relaxing dog-friendly rural retreat at Haye Farm Holidays is well positioned for examining this coveted area of the Dorset coast. A five-minute drive or 15-minute riverside stroll from the beach and the Cobb, start your day off with rides out to sea on pointy-nosed RIBs or hunt down a paddleboard or surfboard to hire down at the shore. A strip on the slopes of the Lym Valley, this site is one mile from the town and its UNESCO World Heritage Site and pairs farm life with a side of valley views, all surrounded by an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (wildlife spotting, anyone?) As it's a pop-up site, facilities are on the basic side, but you'll have access to a portable toilet and a shower (just the one of each, mind you). As you’d expect of its location, this site is free from traffic but it’s still within walking distance of all of Lyme Regis’ shops and restaurants. If you’re not already down for a barbecue on site, reach cosy tearooms, seafood restaurants and beachside pubs and bars on foot in about 15 minutes or so. Sink your teeth into the coast… with coastal walks along the Jurassic coast, geology zones in the Lyme Regis Museum and Dinosaurland Fossil Museum (both 20 minutes’ walk) or the chance for some fossil-hunting of your own (guided fossil walks are available in the town), there’s much to do.

Local attractions

Head out of Lyme Regis and into the treetops course at The Tunnel Tree Tops Charmouth (10 minutes’ drive) where the zipwires are likely put your bravery to the test. Down below, ground yourself again in the Beer Quarry Caves (20 minutes) in Seaton for a tour of the man-made caves and a pretty mighty underground cathedral. Wave at the passersby as you ride the heritage Seaton Tramway (15 minutes). On a tram in the shape of a double-decker bus, you’ll pass by the river Axe and nature reserves in the Axe Valley (keep an eye out for waddling waterbirds as you go). There’s a lighter model railway in Pecorama (20 minutes). Look around the model village and duck into the walled secret garden for what's likely to be a rather fanciful time. Next, pay a visit to the meerkats, chipmunks and flamingos at Axe Valley Wildlife Park (10 minutes). If you’re interested in marine life too, there’s a hands-on aquarium back at the Lyme Regis Marine Aquarium (five minutes) with the chance to feed fish.
