  • A 10-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast, Lulworth and Durdle Door
  • Showers and loos on site; delicious food in The Red Lion pub
The Red Lion Hotel is a family-run pub in the middle of lovely Dorset countryside near to the peaceful village of Winfrith, with a campsite on the extensive field to its rear. You can choose your own spacious pitches and the whole site is available to hire out if you’re travelling in a large group. Immaculate facilities on-site include showers, mains water toilets and a washing-up area. The adjoining pub is open throughout the year: winter brings warming log fires while summer invites alfresco dining in the pub garden – so whenever you visit, you’re assured of a constant supply of delicious food and award-winning ales. It’s a cracking base for soaking up Dorset’s rural vibe on quiet walks across the Downs, as well as being just 10 minutes’ drive from big-hitting family attractions like Jurassic Coast beaches, Durdle Door and Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Nothing to dislike . Owners and staff were all friendly . Had to arrive late , going there straight after work and pouring down with rain in the result of road block, the staff were so helpful on the phone . Finally got there and no issues . Super welcome ! I got stuck in the mud with our Motorhome , but a regular farmer came and help us ! What a nice environment. Breakfast was lovely too ! Will come back 100% !

Disliked: Nothing At all !!!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Every was fantastic! It's a basic site with fairly even grass pitches, understandably a bit squishy in February. Didn't use the showers or the wash up but checked them out and they looked okay, a little bit of a walk from the camping field but not an issue. Every was scrupulously clean. Water, bins and elsan all well maintained and working well. Now for the real gem the pub! Lovely, lovely food with big portions. For what it is it's not expensive either (note this doesn't mean cheap, just means good value). My recommendation: order extra slaw because it's fantastic. Everyone was lovely had a wonderful time speaking to Alan one of the owners who's local knowledge (and enthusiasm for tanks) made us change our plans and visit the tank museum which was exactly the right thing to do.

Disliked: The weather, but no one has any control over that. If you have issues with road noise it may not be the site for you but for us this wasn't an issue and a look at a map should tell you that the site is next to a main road.

Due to above, the price didn’t reflect in the standard. Over priced.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The team at the pub were lovely, helpful and cheerful.

Disliked: Sadly the toilets/shower/sink were not clean, in need of decoration. The Wi-Fi was almost nonexistent.

Liked: Good spaces between the pitches

Disliked: Needs more than one toilet and hooks in the shower cubicles. Could also do with more electric hook ups.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Its in Dorset. Nice and quiet site, but wasn't busy.

Disliked: Not dislikes but could do with more toilets Traffic from road is relentless. Whole booking process was confusing. Booked an electric trip pitch but immediately was contacted by site owner saying there were none available and I didn't pay for one, confused but "would see what I could do" was the answer. Paid deposit to Pitch Up then got an invoice from the site for full payment. No electric pitches were occupied during my stay......frustrating to say the least.
