The grassy pitches (added by manager 13 oct 2021)

  • Quiet grassy corner of a large, adults-only field on a Somerset farm
  • A 20-minute drive from Bath and 35 minutes to the Mendip Hills
  • Next to a footpath and bridleway; pub within walking distance
With a bridleway running by your pitch and a world heritage city six miles away, you’ll have a good choice of where to go for a stroll from Hare Mead Corner. This site is, quite literally, a quiet grassy corner of a large field on a working Somerset farm, where there’s a really lovely local network of local walks and tasty food in Priston village’s pub, only 10 minutes’ gentle stroll away (downhill on the way and uphill on the return route). To get to this rural retreat, you’ll cross over the grass and a few farm gates. It’s not an intensely run farm and much of the land is let to neighbouring farmers for stock grazing and haymaking, so the pitches are in a very quiet spot in a large field that’s used for making hay in the summer. It's remote here, with just a few passers-by, but there’s an active community in the village, which is small and pretty with a church, village hall and a bus stop to get to bigger Bath and all of its historic sites on weekdays (it’s only 20 minutes’ drive otherwise). As for other pub picks, Timsbury village and Tunley village are both within walking distance – get to Tunley in 20 minutes, cross-country style. There’s a great café in Timsbury, by the way (The Meadgate Café) but other snacks and that sort of thing can be tracked down in the big supermarket in Odd Down, around 15 minutes’ drive away from the site.

  • Please note that the site is next to a footpath and bridleway, so there will be some walkers and riders passing by in the daytime. Please also bear in mind that access to the pitches are up a track with a hard stone surface, through several farm gates and over grass. It’s easy to access but please view the photos carefully and decide if you are happy to bring your vehicles to this location. There are strips of game cover (for winter game bird shooting) along the one edge of the field, although the owners are not involved in running the shoot and this takes place in the winter. The pitch has access to a field next to it, which is used once a year for camping and parking for the small, free community-run Priston Music Festival.

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Very peaceful grass field site in a quiet village location with pub within 5 minutes walk. Good communication on booking, arrival and throughout stay.

Disliked: Long grass and a little expensive in view of there being no facilities other than very low pressure water so one needs to be self sufficient with regard to power and waste

Local attractions

With a mix of Roman and Georgian remains, there's lots for history fans to take in around Bath (20 minutes’ drive). The Roman Baths and the guided tours that are available? The Fashion Museum Bath to get a feeling of all the past trends? Perhaps you'll want to snap a pic of the Royal Crescent, the Pulteney Bridge and medieval Bath Abbey as you roam around? Or get to know one iconic English writer a little better around the Jane Austen Centre? Bristol (40 minutes) is another city within reach, with a strong cultural scene, zoo and maritime museum among its main attractions. For some nature, meanwhile, the Mendip Hills (35 minutes) is packed with stunning landscapes and walking trails. You might be interested in the animal world, in which case you'll be well placed, as Longleat Safari Park (40 minutes) isn't too far off. Longleat is also home to spectacular Elizabeth grounds, another place for a good walk, or there’s the National Trust’s Prior Park Landscape Garden (15 minutes) closer by.
