  • Peaceful eight-acre hilltop site with far-reaching rural views
  • Glastonbury, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge within a half-hour drive
  • Handy stopover 15 minutes from the M5; firepits available to hire
There are often some fine views to be had from up in the hills – and that’s certainly the case at Top of the Moor Camping, a pop-up Somerset site in an eight-acre meadow up at the top of a hill just outside the little village of Moorlinch. From this rural spot there are splendid views out stretching as far as the Somerset Levels and the Wellington Monument on a clear day. Walks, watersports, climbing, horse riding and fishing can all be sorted nearby, as can days out to big sights like Cheddar Gorge, Wookey Hole and the historic streets of Bath. All in all, this is a location where most folk should be able to entertain themselves happily for several days (although it also functions rather well as a stopover point for those travelling on the M5, which passes 15 minutes away). Back at base, all is as peaceful as you’d want from a countryside site: this is an off-grid site (best be bringing a torch…) that’s just got simple facilities in the form of toilets, showers and a washing-up area. Well-behaved dogs and kids are most welcome, but you’ll need to keep an eye on them for the sake of the sheep and the wildlife that live around here. The site has a picnic area, and offers firepits for hire – pick up provisions for either at the farm shops in Chedzoy or Bawdrip, or at the supermarket 15 minutes’ drive away in Bridgwater. If you don’t fancy cooking take yourselves off for dinner at the local pub, 15 minutes’ walk away.
