Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Friendly enough welcome, though he accidentally overcharged me, he very quickly corrected that when I pointed it out. I was a day later than originally planned and they did reduce my fee, which impressed me. I usually aim for trees, but this was two fields, with regularly placed toilets and water posts

Disliked: I arrived mid-afternoon, there were tents and campervans mostly around the edges of the field, I chose what looked like a quiet spot and because it was quite a sloped hill, close to the hedge where it looked flatter. I set up and had two or three hours of relative peace, then a group of four young lads arrived and set up near me at the same time an older couple also set up not far away. Both parties then put their own choice of music on, not quietly, and broke the peace. I have to be honest by 8.30pm I decided that I wasn’t feeling close to nature, but disappointed to be in a noisy field, so I packed up and left. The site itself wasn’t at fault, but I camp for peace and quiet and to experience nature, not to share my quiet with others

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Fabulous laid back campsite. Fires allowed. Some additional new compost toilets added since our last visit. Despite the recent very wet weather the campsite was in good shape and relatively dry underfoot. Great local pub just up the road.

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Clean and quiet campsite with really nice facilities (basic, as described, but compost toilets were clean and well stocked with lights and toilet paper!), plenty of water points and friendly staff. 2 minute walk to a lovely pub and beautiful walks straight out of the campsite (it’s on the West Mendip Way). Could choose our own plot and even when the site got busier on Friday night it felt we had the field to ourselves.

Non-electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Great value for a wild camp experience in a beautiful location, the staff were friendly and helpful and only a short walk to a lovely pub.

Disliked: Lights didn't work in toilets which made it difficult to use, but an easy fix so no problem.

From the manager: Thanks for alerting us to the lights. They are solar but can sometimes have their moments! Ebborways Farm

Local attractions

Given the proximity of Bath and Wells, there’s an obvious temptation to regale your companions with choice one-liners from Blackadder; but pause for breath and you’ll discover that both have more celebrated charms than the baby-eating bishop. Bath probably needs less of an introduction: think Roman baths, Georgian grandeur, Jane Austen, rugby and culture aplenty; while Wells, which holds the accolade of England’s smallest city, is a medieval gem with a thirteenth century cathedral, a moated bishop’s palace, and a lively twice-weekly market. Also highly recommended is a trip to the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, which offers something for all ages: breathtaking views; brilliant caving and rock climbing; walks up Jacob’s Ladder; open-top bus tours; a clutch of family attractions; eerily beautiful stalactite caverns; and, of course, more cheese than you can shake a stick at. Keen walkers will be delighted by the proximity of the Mendips (Ebborways Farm is close to the West Mendip Way, which runs to the Ebbor Gorge nature reserve); or, for those who prefer life on four wheels, there are loads of fascinating places an easy drive away: atmospheric Glastonbury, the colossal caves and family attractions at Wookey Hole, the vibrant maritime city of Bristol, the fantastic safari and adventure park at Longleat, and the sandy beaches of Weston-super-Mare. If you’re visiting in August, you may be lucky enough to coincide with Priddy’s annual sheep fair; this historic event, with animal demonstrations, a funfair and more, attracts a whopping 10,000 visitors each year. Finally, should you feel the need to indulge in our national pastime, there are more than 90 outlet shops at the Clarks Village centre, in the nearby village of Street.
