  • Dog-friendly pop-up site on a family-run working farm near Portishead
  • A 10-minute drive from Clevedon and half an hour from Bristol
  • Fresh eggs available; barbecues and campfires allowed; pubs nearby
Homing in on Greater Bristol for sandy seaside playgrounds, Clevedon’s marine lake and Victorian pier or more outdoor activities in the Mendip Hills to the south? Conveniently, Sprigg Farm is a family-friendly and dog-friendly pop-up site near Portishead on a family-run working farm, 10 minutes’ drive away from Clevedon, half an hour from Bristol and 40 minutes from the Mendip Hills. The farm is home to animals including cows and ducks, so there are fresh eggs available to buy if you want to power up your mornings a little. Barbecues and campfires are both permitted here, so you can set your sights on a fry-up and source all the extra garnishings and meat from local farm shops – there’s one of these 10 minutes’ drive away beside Noah's Ark Zoo Farm. With views of the Gordano Valley and backing onto the Weston Big Woods (an easy spot to take the dog out on a walk if you’ve brought one along), it’s no wonder that wildlife often wanders into the site. You may hear woodpeckers or spot kestrel, buzzard and deer around. Aside from the pleasures of the wildlife, facilities are fairly nice here too. There are well-maintained toilets and a shower block. You’ll want to stay hydrated too, so there’s water available for that. More food is not far away here either, as there are many restaurants, pubs and cafés in Portishead, five minutes’ drive away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: A rough and ready farm campsite with good, clean facilities and a lovely, welcoming reception. Really nice addition to have kettle/toaster/sofa in social room, really above and beyond. Thank you for a lovely stay.

Disliked: Not keen on rubbish disposal being so close to the playground area.

From the manager: Thank you Hannah, We do hope you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your lovely review. We have looked into having a Biffa type bin but are pretty stuck how to encourage recycling 🤷‍♀️ Noted, bins might be better off in the gateway Cheers Emz

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet site with plenty of space per pitch. Having a fire pit to roast marshmallows was the highlight for the children along with the trampoline! Lovely and close to Portishead Lido, Clevedon Marine Lake and Tyntesfield which we filled our days with. All the facilities we needed and such a lovely touch to have shower gel etc available- although we used ours as had packed it! Emma was a delight and her and Chris are trying to hard to provide everything for everybody for only one month a year! The children loved seeing the animals and were devastated to hear why rabbits and Guinea pigs weren’t there to pet.

Disliked: We found one shower perfectly acceptable and I personally wouldn’t spend any extra money on installing more but what could be done is dividing the two areas of the building so one door is for the shower and toilet and the other door for the kitchen area. That way the building can be used more efficiently and people sitting on the sofa in the kitchen area drinking their coffee can stay there whilst the shower is being used and the fridge and washing up still accessed?

From the manager: Cheers Rachel, So glad to hear you guys had a lovely stay. That's a great idea for the hut, thank you for your ideas. It really isn't cost effective to install another shower as would need to change the electricity supply too, would definitely need to be open for longer than a month to justify. Anybody is welcome to pet our baby furries, if I'm around, with adult supervision of course. We are just so sick of the cruelty they have to endure by unsupervised children. Not just the pets, all the animals have had rocks thrown at them, fish removed from the tank etc, we can't understand it. Anyhow rant over, (sorry). We are very lucky with our location, hope to see you all again soon Emz

Liked: Pitch up gave misleading advertisement. There was no water no music allowed after 8pm and it was a patch of grass. I live in the Cotswold and get better. I asked for a refund for my niece and my £75 covered the days spent there. It was so boring and I don’t understand how they get away charging so much. I went with my niece great niece and nephews. We stayed 2 days and slept there one. I would not recommend it to anyone. You can’t call it a farm when there’s no water. That’s weird. We went to the beach for two days and my friends house where we stayed the night. I’ve screen shot this message to resend again. People should be aware.

From the manager: HI Ayisha, I take my reviews very seriously and more often than not to heart. Yours however is a massive joke! You booked 2 pitches and paid for 1. The whole site was so happy when you left early, as you couldn't pay for the second. You slept here for 2 nights, no staying at friends. In that time we had 4 complaints! More than anyone since we opened- congratulations. You were from London when you arrived and had an Alpaca farm in the Cotswold when leaving. You threatened a guy in front of his family and followed him into the gents! Behaviour which is unheard of. Response to your misleading information; Clevedon Marine Lake- that's correct, it's in Clevedon! Portishead lakegrounds, again correct- it's in Portishead. No where does it state the farm has a water park! Patch of grass?! There's acres for 10 pitches. 2 nights... 4 complaints. Your children smashed the windows of the play hut. Broke the trampoline enclosure. Destroyed the baby swing. Smashed up all the wooden play toys. Broke the binds. Showed no end of cruelty to the animals. Eventually you left at 11pm when you agreed you would be gone by 6pm. 5 children 2 adults 1 times 5 seater car. Never mind child safety, seat belts were the least of your concerns, by the time you left you couldn't string a sentence together. Your lucky I wasn't home, I would have called the police. I'm so glad you wouldn't come back, your not welcome. Emz

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Amazing quiet campsite, the field is well maintained and the views are lovely. Em the owner is lovely and does everything to help, including getting her husband to bring us firewood when we needed some, Thank you! Campfires and dogs allowed. Loads of farm animals to see, eggs, sausages and burgers available to buy. Kitchen area with tv and dvd player to use while charging phones etc in the cabin. Male and female toilets and a shower, all very clean. Just a really nice place to stay in a good location, for a price that is really cheap compared to others. We will be back sometime, Thank you for a nice stay.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Spacious field to choose own pitch. Great location, very rural but accessible. Swing, slide and trampoline for the kids. Nice to see the farm pigs, chickens and ducks. Kettle and microwave available. Friendly staff. Value for money.

Disliked: The grass was long. Only one shower, but we didn't need to wait to use it.

From the manager: Thank you Wendy, It really is a lovely quiet village, such a shame about the pub, (it really was the best one for miles when it was open). See you again soon Emz
