  • Scenic and peaceful site beside a loch on Craignish peninsula
  • Paradise for ramblers and explorers
  • No signs, no rules, no regulations
Working life getting you down? Need a break from having to do what you’re told? At Ardfern Motorhome Park, a small site less than five minutes’ drive from the village of Ardfern on Argyll’s Craignish peninsula, there are no signs, no rules, no regulations, no check-in or checkout times and nothing to stop you relaxing thoroughly throughout your stay. Ardfern Motorhome Park is a top spot for ramblers, as Scotland’s freedom to roam rights mean there’s nothing getting in the way of exploring every inch of the Craignish peninsula. Stroll along the stunning sea loch to Ardfern village for shops and eats or wander the hills and woodlands around the site, soaking in the views of the Highlands coast. When you feel like letting a horse do all the walking, Lunga Riding Stables – from where you can ride through forest tracks or along the shore using English or Western tack – is 10 minutes away on the other side of the peninsula. You can also explore the peninsula and the islands of the Inner Hebrides on water if you bring a boat or kayak, or by climbing aboard a guided boat trip. On site, there’s nothing to do but relax: fire up a barbecue whenever you get peckish and share the spoils with your family canine, who’s also welcome on your rambles, or head to Ardfern’s hotel-bar-restaurant for something you don’t have to cook yourself.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Campground felt somewhat remote and peaceful which was nice. Views were great. Pitches were well kept and it had the amenities you would want for a few nights, in particular the shower which had good pressure. The campsite was also only 10 minute walk to the pub to meet friendly locals.

Disliked: Toilet/sink setup felt a bit unhygienic as the sink to wash dishes was shared by the toitet. It also created a situation where you were opening and closing doors without washing hands. Also the shower hot water cut out!

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: We were the only ones on the site due to staying late October. This meant we didn’t have to share the facilities with anyone. There is a pub a short 15 minute walk away which was lovely and the food was lovely. There is also a small village shop nearby and a cafe called ‘Lucy’s’ which was unfortunately closed on the days we stayed, but it looked lovely.

Disliked: Toilet/shower cold due to being in wooden hut, but they were clean. Water tap had large tap attached which meant filling up water bottles was difficult. I understand why they had it though for filling motorhomes.

Liked: Lovely small, quiet site in a really beautiful location. The facilities, comprising wash up, one toilet and one shower are slightly quirky but fine. And Simon, the owner, is a lovely guy

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Great place to get away from it all… Grounds well kept, facilities (shower, sink, toilet) rustic and do the job. Small site, kept clean and maintained with electric hook up. Lots of grass areas to walk dogs or let the kids go wild. Scenery stunning… great pitches… would definitely recommend ❤️

Disliked: No major issues… unable to connect to wifi, asked other campers also advised unable to connect but it’s to be expected in the highlands….

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Freedom from rules and being policed. Simple set up the facilities- everything you need is there pretty much. Being next to the water was lovely. Lots of wildlife to see..

Disliked: We just couldn't work out where to drain waste water to do drives home with it on board.

Local attractions

Scottish escape not complete without a wee dram (or two)? Bag a tour and a drop of the uisge beatha (that’s Scots Gaelic for ‘the water of life’) at Oban Distillery – close to the coast on the Sound of Kerrera in the town of Oban – to learn all about the whisky-making process at this working distillery. For history buffs, the Kilmartin Museum of prehistory and the ruined Carnasserie Castle are within 20 minutes of Ardfern, and the Easdale Island Folk Museum is a puddle-hop away from Oban. Those who like their hols more lush than illuminating should make tracks for Arduaine Garden, 15 minutes from the site, and Crarae Garden Argyll, 45 minutes away. If you have extra time and don’t object to longer car journeys, a jaunt to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park less than an hour and a half from Ardfern is a must – it’s a top spot for climbing, angling, cycling and hiking, and you can get out on the water for watersports (try windsurfing, paddleboarding, canoeing, kayaking and sailing), water buses (great for the A to B, or for some sightseeing) and cruises.
