  • Family-friendly site 100 metres from the sea
  • A two-minute walk from Southerness Lighthouse and paths to two beaches
  • Swimming pool, café, entertainment room and a couple of bars on site
Looking for a fine place to get your seaside fix? Get straight to it at Lighthouse Leisure. This family-friendly site is positioned 100 metres from the sea and two minutes’ walk from the historic Southerness Lighthouse, where there’s a footpath that goes to Southerness beach and Powillimount beach in the other direction. What might your days look like here? Well, you might want to go sea fishing along the coast or choose from the selection of lochs and rivers inland. There’s a golf course just 10 minutes’ walk from the site when you fancy a round, or other golf courses within a 15 mile radius of the site. As for your holiday wanders, there are both coastal and forest walks in the surrounding area. Those of you who prefer to tackle the land on two wheels can also find cycling trails in the surrounding area, especially at 7Stanes: Dalbeattie, 20 minutes’ drive away. The site itself is well-maintained with tarred roads and next door to a well-stocked shop for all your supplies. There’s a regular bus service from the village to Dumfries that takes 40 minutes and stops at other villages on the route. As a family-friendly place, plenty of attention has been paid to kids’ entertainment too – that includes an adventure playground and a leisure complex with a swimming pool (which must be booked in advance), café, entertainment room, family bar and adults-only bar. The site has been in operation for nearly 50 years and being family owned, it has built up a well-established, warm and friendly atmosphere. Dogs are welcome too, good news for those of you with a furry friend.

Electric grass and earth pitch

Liked: Clean small site with friendly staff, toilets and showers were fine, nothing special about them but sanitary and did the job. Level pitching and large enough to feel comfortable, Tap close enough to filling for water easily and obvious signs for rubbish area. Only a short and simple walk to the beach. Arcade and chippy just outside the site with a nice chippy at fair prices and a couple of nice pubs close by.

Disliked: The touring pitch's are right next to an over busy and very loud bar. Unless I read the advertisement wrong I expected plenty of kids entertainment – there is one small playground area. A leisure complex with café, entertainment room, family bar and adults bar- there is one small building essentially holding a bar and a few bit in the way of coin machines I guess this contains the cafe too but it was packed and very loud so much so it had a claustrophobic feel about it , for us defeating the point in choosing the smaller resort A pool -that we didn’t get to use. I did know before arriving that it needed to be a pre booked time slot but didn’t expect to not be able to book in for the Sunday morning ( everything was closed) Saturday we’d apparently left it too late after we arrived, also we didn’t realise before hand that it would cost extra on top of our resort fee. Honestly we ended up going to the larger site next door and a pub down the road for most of our break instead. Thankfully we were only there for one night otherwise we’d probably have left early

From the manager: Hi, We are sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your stay with us. Regarding location of touring pitches, we added pictures and you can see on them that our touring field is next to static caravans and also next to our complex. We are small family caravan Park. Regarding swimming pool we informed that is better to book it in advance. You've booked thru Pitch up and there is also information that swimming pool is not included in price and private session is £20 Regarding entertainment for kids. You've stayed one night and maybe that was a reason why you felt that is not too much for kids. Below you can see what was on at the weekend which you've been on our site Friday 22nd March 7.00pm Cash Bingo (adults only) 7.00pm Kids Inflatables 8.30pm Disco & Karaoke with Ali & Chris Saturday 23rd March 11.00am Kids Inflatables 1.00pm Cash Bingo (adults only) 3.00pm Live Music with the Castle Band 8.30pm Live Music with Jim McMahon Sunday 24th March 2.00pm Cash Bingo (adults only) 3.30pm Live Music 6.00pm DJ Billy Kids Disco Hope you will give us a chance and visit us again.

Electric grass pitch (large)

Liked: Clean toilets and showers, close to the bar and play area, plenty of choices for eating out considering it's a small village, nice little walk to the beach to let the dogs have a run. Staff were lovely.

Disliked: Pitches are quite small, we we're right next to the bar, we are not the quietest people luckily , if you we're after a quiet break you would be disappointed. Took us about 6 months to fill our aqua role because the water tap was crap. And people not picking up after their dogs so had to watch out for dog mines, not that that's the sites fault, that's lazy doh owners!!

3 bedroom static caravan (comfort, pet friendly, plus)

Liked: We loved our stay in static it was clean and tidy and had plenty to do on site.

Disliked: I had young children and dogs, most nights was very noisy and children wouldn't settle. Saturday night the site next to ours let off fireworks scaring our dogs which you didn't know anything about which should of been warned.

Liked: Lots of fun for kids. Staff were lovely working on grounds and behind the bar. Pool was great as was the play area and amusements. Beautiful beach.

Disliked: No baby change. Noise went on too late for us, karaoke until midnight although I think our neighbours were the real noise issue we had. Storage space in shower (could do with extra hook/shower or something to help keep clothes dry when trying to wash small kids and a baby) No WiFi.
