Bankings Field non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Great views and decent facilities. The walks nearby and into Falkland are lovely and it's so nice to have the little shop on hand.

Disliked: Other campers chopping down wood - it would be great to see some more obvious signs in the area. We were placed on a very slopped site that made sleeping incredibly uncomfortable. It seems like there are two or three pitches that slope down towards the river.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked: A lovely, quiet, wee site in a peaceful setting. Was lovely to hear all the birds singing in the morning. Facilities are fine, but just as well it wasn't too busy as they are quite small. Lovely farm shop with cafe. The cakes are great.

Disliked: Can be quite a walk to the facilities depending on where you are. Kids play park could do with an update.

Bankings Field non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Loved everything. The weather was not great - bucketed down on the first night, and yet we had an absolutely wonderful time. The field for tents is well managed with labelled areas, and therefore not overcrowded and every pitch has its own area. Beautiful environment, amazing organic farm shop and cafe, and facilities for campers are basic but clean, just what's needed.

Disliked: It is very popular, so unlikely you'd get a spot on a long weekend when booking impulsively.

Local attractions

A visit to Renaissance-era Falkland Palace (20 minutes’ walk) should top your to-do list, for its ornate architecture, formal gardens and real tennis court built in the times of King James V. After seeing the palace, amble up Falkland Hill (also known as East Lomond, five minutes’ drive to the car park) and be rewarded with views over Fife to the North Sea. The Fife Coastal Path (20 minutes' drive) is open to both walkers and bikers. Cyclists also have a route especially to themselves, as Pillars of Hercules is on National Cycle Route 1, a massive trail linking Dover with the Shetland Islands. To see more of Fife, take a driving tour of the East Neuk’s seaside villages of Elie (35 minutes), Anstruther and Crail (both 45 minutes, and all with tempting harbour-front pubs). Stop off in university town St Andrews (40 minutes) to see the cathedral and castle ruins, or let golfing aficionados take a guided tour of the famed Old Course. If you fancy playing on these championship links, be sure to book a tee-off time well in advance.
