Glamping holidays in 2 luxury on-suite, self-catering camping pods in the Outer Hebrides. Situated in the idyllic coastal village of Mangersta in the Uig area of the Isle of Lewis. Each cabin sleeps up to 4 people and is available for nightly and/or weekly holiday lets. They both have one double bed, one sofa bed, table, chairs and mini kitchen with a sink, 2 ring hob, crockery and cooking utensils, microwave and fridge. The en-suite contains a toilet, wash hand basin and sports shower. A water heater, panel heater, full insulation and double glazing keep the pods warm and cosy. Facilities also include a stunning camp fire/BBQ pit set within a circular dry-stone wall. Uig Community Shop (5 miles from Mangersta) has launderette facilities, off-licence, fuel and groceries. The cabins are a 5min. walk from Mangersta Beach and look out across the North Atlantic. They are located on a working croft where we keep a small herd of Aberdeen Angus cows, Hebridean sheep and poultry. Designated a National Scenic Area, due to the outstanding natural beauty of the coastal landscape, the Uig area is famed for its numerous white shell sand beaches, rocky coves, crystal clear turquoise seas, dramatic cliffs, rugged hills & gentle machair grasslands carpeted with wild flowers during the summer. This wilderness landscape is rich in flora, fauna & bird-life including golden eagles & sea eagles. Mangersta Croft Wigwams are a hidden escape in one of the most beautiful & remote parts of Europe.

Route directions

From Stornoway take the A859 south to Leurbost or if travelling up from Harris take the A859 north to Leurbost. At Leurbost take the A858 to Garynahine - then take the B8011 to Uig - after the village of Ardroil/ Eadha Dha Fhadhail. Just over the Red River bridge you will see the signpost for Mangersta / Mangurstadh – drive up the hill, alongside Loch Scaslavat then take the next right which is signposted to Mangersta/ Mangurstadh. The road winds around the loch and up another hill. Follow the road until you reach the Mangersta Croft Wigwams® sign. Parking is reserved for Wigwam® guests at the bottom of the croft no. 5 driveway. Aeroplane Flybe operate flights to Stornoway from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Inverness. Ferry Caledonian MacBrayne car and passenger ferries sail from Ullapool on the Scottish mainland to Stornoway, on the Isle of Lewis and from Uig on the Isle of Skye to Tarbert on Harris. For holiday makers island hopping up through the Outer Hebrides there are also ferry connections between Berneray on North Uist and Leverburgh in Harris. Bus There are bus and coach services to the ferry ports at Ullapool on the Scottish mainland and Uig on the Isle of Skye. There is a local bus service between Stornoway and Uig on the Isle of Lewis. The bus service runs on a daily basis Monday to Saturday. There is no bus service on a Sunday. Buses to and from Stornoway will drop and collect visitors at the top of the Mangersta Croft Wigwams® driveway. An-up-to date local bus timetable can be downloaded from the travel and transport pages of the local authority website www.cne-siar.gov.uk Train You can travel as far as Inverness by rail then by coach to Ullapool where you can catch the ferry to Stornoway. You can also travel as far as Oban, Mallaig, and Kyle of Lochalsh by train and then by coach connection through Skye to Uig to catch the ferry to Tarbert in Harris.

The stunning landscape surrounding Mangersta Croft Wigwams offers many opportunities for outdoor activities - hill walking, fishing, surfing, kayaking, sea-cliff climbing, bird and wild-life watching or gentle strolls along the shore. Mangurstadh Gallery displays oil paintings, pastels, photography and handmade paper crafts and is located on-site. Seatrek (8 miles from Mangersta) provide regular boat trips from Miavaig Pier out to the islands of Loch Roag, and further afield to the Flannan Isles and St Kilda. Auberge Carnish (2 miles from Mangersta) do excellent evening meals Abhainn Dearg (1 mile from Mangersta) whisky distillery is open for informal visits and tours. Uig Museum and Uig Community Centre Cafe (5 miles from Mangersta) provide light lunches and comprehensive displays on local history and archaeology. Further afield on the island and all within a one hour drive, the Arnol Blackhouse Museum, Callinish Stones, Carloway Broch and An Lanntair Arts Centre in Stornoway are amongst many excellent visitor attractions. The award winning Hebridean Celtic Festival takes place annually in July.
