  • Relaxing glamping pods with hot tubs and views over Loch Broom
  • On the North Coast 500, within walking distance of Ullapool village
  • Based on a working croft with hens, sheep and Casper the pony
Eyeing up the stunning northwest coast of Scotland or the North Coast 500 route? Then, book in some rest and relaxation at The Highland Bothies. With a hot tub and a decking each, the pods are a peaceful place to sit and recharge, read a book or keep your eyes peeled for buzzards. The pods are a family-owned and -run luxury glamping site based on a working croft overlooking the village of Ullapool on the North Coast 500 route. It also looks over the lovely Loch Broom, which is in Wester Ross in the Highlands and Islands. The croft has a small herd of sheep, hens and Casper the Shetland pony. Although they’re not part of the family, a herd of deer are often spotted on the hillside directly behind the bothies. The village of Ullapool is around half an hour’s walk (or a five-minute drive) from The Highland Bothies, so it’s easy to make a supermarket trip, visit a restaurant or café or grab a local boat tour to the Summer Isles where there are seals, dolphins, whales and sea eagles depending upon the time of year. The village has a range of annual festivals including a book festival and the Adult Fèis in May or the Junior Fèis in April. It also has a sea kayaking school with sessions for beginners and the more experienced, as well as a golf course and a museum. And of course, as you may already know, this area of Scotland is packed with stunning scenery which is likely to please hikers, photographers, artists, climbers, sailors, divers, snorkelers and wildlife watchers. Use the pods as a cosy base for hill walking or biking if you so wish. There are several Munros and smaller hills within a short drive of the site. There’s also good access to snorkel trails and fishing lochs (grab a permit first in the village).
