  • High-quality well-equipped glamping pods in the village of Duirnish
  • A 10-minute drive to Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye Bridge
  • Private wood-fired hot tub for each pod, plus kitchenette and deck
A gorgeous Highlands & Islands location, and an equally gorgeous glamping pod to stay in – that’s the offering at Duirnish Pods, in the little village of Duirnish about five minutes’ drive from Plockton. This is a spot that’s both pretty and practical – the village has a traditional atmosphere to it, with a Thomas Telford bridge in the middle and Highland cattle in the fields nearby (or even roaming the streets from time to time). There’s a lovely little café here with home-baked cakes and local produce, and the village has a request-stop train station (10 minutes’ walk from the pods) for easy travels around the local area. And the pods themselves live up to similar standards – they’re smartly done up and provided with lots of handy facilities. Each one has its own kitchenette (with a two-ring hob, microwave, fridge, sink and plenty of utensils and crockery) and a dining area – although you’re also welcome to take meals and drinks out to your private deck or the larger shared garden deck if you’d like to spend more time in the open air. On days when you’d rather cosy up indoors, it’s handy to know that a TV is provided in the pod, along with all bedding, towels (replaced every other day) and robes. These last may also come in handy for wandering out to what’s likely to be a highlight for most guests: your own private wood-fired hot tub…

Applecross camping pod

Liked: Nice, homely feel to the pod with those minute details. I was surprised to find a good WiFi service which was especially useful as I had an unexpected work event! The views from the deck immediately outside of the Pod were amazing and never grew old.

Disliked: Nothing.

Kishorn camping pod

Liked: Everything about our pod was very pleasing, cleanliness great, bedding and towels provided, cooking and eating utensils very clean and plenty for 4. We were supplied with every basic item like tea, coffee, sugar, milk. The decor was very nice with furnishings and pics of highland cows, large flat screen smart tv with Sky Glass installed, free wifi, the hot tub was prepared, heated and cleaned daily, dressing gowns and slippers provided too. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming and were on hand to help in any way possible. All utilities including electricity and logs for fire, hot tub and firepit were included. View of surrounding area was amazing including the Cullins on Skye. Fantastic stay, will definitely return.

Disliked: Can't think of anything, even had fair weather and the air is so clean.

Applecross camping pod

Liked: The owners were really friendly, the pod was super comfy and well equipped - lots of attention to the small details. We loved that the hot tub was fresh water and not treated with chemicals. Everything was clean and well looked after. Views were also amazing and the way to the pods was well signposted. Also very dog friendly.

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

The scenery around here is spectacular, so you should really be planning some time spent out in the open – perhaps on walks through native woodlands (looking out for otters and pine martens as you go), climbing the Five Sisters of Kintail (45 minutes’ drive) or heading to Plockton harbour (five minutes) to join a sea kayak tour to nearby coral beaches. Plockton is also the place to join wildlife-spotting boat trips out onto Loch Carron in search of seals and dolphins, or to moor your own boat if you have one. If you’d rather stick to dry land, try an outing to Attadale Gardens (25 minutes) to search for animal sculptures hidden among the ferns and colourful flowers. Head south instead from your pod to get to Kyle of Lochalsh (10 minutes) for the trip over the Skye Bridge to explore the many delights of this gorgeous island. It should take you an hour or so to drive from the pods to the pretty Fairy Pools or the Talisker Distillery, or about an hour and 20 minutes to reach Dunvegan Castle, up at the northwest tip of the island.
