  • Waterside pitches with Cuillin Hills and Loch Ainort views on Skye
  • Half an hour’s drive from Portree, and 45 minutes to Dunvegan Castle
  • Motorhome pitches with electric hook-ups; shops 15 minutes’ drive
On the scenic east coast of the Isle of Skye, Kinloch Ainort motorhome site has truly exceptional views over tidal Loch Ainort on one side, with the craggy peaks of the famous Red and Black Cuillin Hills as the backdrop. Run by a local crofting family, the site is a five-minute drive from the (very quiet) A87 main road, making it a handy base for exploring the island’s landscapes and visiting the pretty main town Portree (half an hour’s drive). It’s also far enough away from the road for guests to spend their nights and days in near-complete silence, only disturbed by the sound of birds of prey soaring over the hillsides. Each of the hardstanding pitches has an electric hook-up, water supply and wifi – please note there are no toilets or chemical-disposal facilities. There’s a hot-drinks machine, but that’s about it, so if you’re planning on self-catering, stop off to pick up supplies from the convenience stores in Broadford (15 minutes) on the way to your pitch. For the nearest café, head for Sconser (10 minutes).

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Clean, modern, beautiful remote location. This is an aire not a campsite really. Good WiFi Ehu

Disliked: A little too isolated for us. No personal interaction with anyone (staff) Very exposed. Weather was awful so didn't sleep due to noise and rocking of van.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Location, Flat surface.

Disliked: To charge £25 to park in a farm yard with no toilet, washing facilities, no waste disposal or waste bin is excessive. Without EHU, (if needed), this is wild camping. £10 would be a more reasonable price for what it is.

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: Lovely view, very flat level hard standing & electric

Disliked: Water supply on barn wall full of sheep Does not advertise NO waste disposal for toilet - with such lovely branding & luxury apartments why not do things properly - provide a skip to dump our rubbish & a toilet disposal point in to your existing septic tank used by apartments As it stands this is just a car park with electric hook up - we won’t stay again as there are so many lay-bys to park in for free If you don’t provide a toilet disposal point then say so

Electric hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked: not much to be honest

Disliked: Nobody answers the phone. Extremely basic. Just a parking lot with electricity. So really rather expensive and low value for money vs other places. No place to dump / through away garbage. Guidence to location isn't clear. No lights.

Local attractions

Walkers are in their element here, with loch-side strolls, glen yomps and arduous mountain treks right from site. Swimmers get lucky too, with refreshing dips in the saltwater Loch Ainort or wild swimming in the Fairy Pools (35 minutes’ drive) on the River Brittle. Golfers can hone their handicap at the local course (10 minutes), while cyclists follow almost-empty roads and tracks leading up into the hills. Pretty Portree has a slew of restaurants and shops (half an hour), while the former medieval stronghold of Dunvegan Castle and Gardens (45 minutes) has stirring exhibitions on Isle of Skye clan history as well as waterfront gardens to wander and boat trips out to seal colonies. To acquaint yourself with the island’s beauty, take a driving tour to the bizarre spiky rock formations at the Old Man of Storr (40 minutes), head up to Lealt Falls (45 minutes) in its narrow gorge, and stop off at the soaring basalt columns of Kilt Rock (50 minutes). If you’re after even more solitude, jump on the ferry at Sconser (10 minutes) and make for the hills and beaches of Raasay.
