Local attractions

You're never far from a good golf course around here, with the three championship golf courses at Gleneagles a measly five minutes' drive away, plus plenty more further afield. As well as world-class golf, Gleneagles has an award-winning spa, Scotland's only restaurant with two Michelin stars, plus lots of outdoor options: show off with a showjumping lesson, or if you've got kids between the ages of three and seven get them in for a session with a Shetland pony. Gleneagles also has its own trout lochs, and salmon fishing can be arranged off property at the nearby River Tay. If you make friends with your ghillie, he'll graciously give you his secrets for the best tackle, flies and strategies for hauling the finest fishy specimens. Other lordly pursuits at Gleneagles include clay pigeon shooting, game bird shooting and deer stalking (hat not included); tennis, off-road driving, falconry and archery are all on the menu too. Once you've finished with all that arduous eating, pampering and outdoor activity, head over to the Famous Grouse Experience to loosen up with whisky tastings, warehouse tours and blending experiences at Scotland's oldest whisky distillery. History hounds are spoiled for choice around Perthshire too, with the Wallace Monument, Doune Castle, Stirling Castle and the Battle of Bannockburn Visitor Centre all within 24 miles.
