  • Luxury ensuite eco pods with views over the Perthshire countryside
  • A five-minute drive from the famed Gleneagles resort
  • Kingsize bed, TV, outdoor decking area and breakfast deliveries
Fancy waking up to gorgeous green views of the Perthshire countryside from the comfort of a kingsize bed? The eco pods at Whitemoss Lodge in Dunning, a 10-minute drive from Auchterarder, have got such a situation sorted. Built using sustainable materials, these Perthshire pods combine home comforts with some rather swish touches. As well as a kingsize bed (which can be changed to twin beds, if you’d rather), there’s a seating area with a table and TV, wifi, tea and coffee making facilities and a mini fridge to keep your milk (and/or wine) chilled. No need to trek anywhere for toilets either – each pod has a private ensuite kitted out with a power shower and eco lighting. All bed linen and towels are provided too (good news for those travelling light). Sound good so far? Well, it gets better still… make the most of lazy mornings with a pre-ordered breakfast basket delivered to your pod at a time that suits you. It comes packed with fresh juice, fruit, yogurt and a choice of a hot croissant or hot roll (choose from bacon, sausage or veggie sausage) to set you up for the day ahead. Outside, there’s a decking area where you can sit out (that's where that chilled wine comes into play…) and admire the views of the countryside and Craig Rossie hill (incidentally, a fine hiking spot if you're up for it). Keep the chats on the quiet side and you might also catch a glimpse of the deer, rabbits, sheep and birdlife living nearby…

Local attractions

There’s no shortage of golf courses around here, but with three championship courses, as well as a spa and Michelin-starred restaurant, Gleneagles (five-minute drive) is a fine choice for both club-wielders and non-golfing companions. Other outdoorsy stuff nearby includes fishing, shooting, deer stalking, horse riding, tennis, off-road driving and archery… plenty to keep active types busy for many a day. Castles are in good supply too: some of the nearest worth a look are Huntingtower Castle (15 minutes), Drummond Castle (25 minutes), Castle Campbell (half an hour) and Lochleven Castle (half an hour). Other picnic-friendly spots include Scone Palace (25 minutes), which houses a collection of antiques, paintings and rare artefacts, amid pretty grounds that are most suitable for a stroll. More scenic gardens are at Branklyn Garden (20 minutes) and Macrosty Park (25 minutes). Something else Scotland is known for? Scotch whisky, of course. Celebrate the national tipple with a visit to Scotland's oldest working distillery, Glenturret (25 minutes), for tours and tastings.
