  • Private family-friendly bell tent with views of the Preseli Mountains
  • A 15-minute drive to Cardigan Bay’s sandy beaches and the coastal path
  • Barbecue, gas stove and firepit provided; relax in a woodfired bath
Bring your beach gear, barbecue bits and a big sense of adventure to Pwllgwair Bell Tent, where breaks might be spent prodding and turning tasty concoctions on the barbecue, lounging on sandy beaches on the Cardigan Bay coast 15 minutes’ drive from base, or hiking, mountain biking and dolphin-spotting across Ceredigion. That’s a lot of adventure right there – but there’s also plenty of relaxation on the menu (in addition to the delicious dinners rustled up on your gas stove or barbecue, that is). The bell tent comes with its own covered cooking area and there's an outdoor woodfired bath to soak your feet after days’ clambering over the coastal path 15 minutes’ drive away. In the eves, you might want to watch the sun go down over the Preseli Hills from your firepit. The three-person bell tent is totally private too, so there's plenty of space to lounge around, dine alfresco style, play games or read a novel (whatever you like to do). The site provides all bedding, cooking equipment and a cool box where ice packs are topped up daily, and there’s a composting toilet for your convenience. So, what sandy beaches are on the horizon? Penbryn Beach (15 minutes’ drive), surrounded by woodlands and grass-covered cliffs that are fab for hiking, is one. Llangrannog beach (15 minutes) is another, with an excellent reputation for surfing and sailing. Aberporth beach (15 minutes) is a busier bay, well set-up for everything from crab and lobster fishing to sailing and swimming, while Tresaith beach (15 minutes) has a waterfall, rockpools and dolphins that often visit the surrounding coastal path. If you're foraging for barbecue ingredients, there are handy shops, farm shops and butchers within 10 minutes’ drive of the bell tent, many in Newcastle Emlyn, 10 minutes’ drive away.

Local attractions

If you’re lucky, you might have already spotted dolphins from the coastal path. Your chances are even better on dolphin-spotting boat trips that depart from New Quay (20 minutes’ drive) – just leave some time afterwards to surf or laze around on the sandy beaches back on shore. Local towns like Newcastle Emyln (10 minutes), Aberaeron (20 minutes) and Cardigan (20 minutes) are a foodies’ and bargain hunters’ haven - think farmers’ markets, independent shops, gorgeous eateries and antique stores, plus pretty walks … Of course, there are more spectacular hikes in the Preseli Hills (half an hour), past moors, valleys, ancient Neolithic tracks and Iron Age hillforts. Brechfa Forest (35 minutes) is another prime spot and not just for hikes – mountain biking trails weave through the redwoods, oak and eucalyptus. Families will also be happy to find The Moody Calf Play Barn (20 minutes) at hand.

Bell tent

Liked: Everything the tent was clean and functional.the views were exceptional and the dogs were very friendly. Alice made us feel welcome and left us to it. There is the option to purchase logs and firefighters for the open fire. The kitchen was good and fresh water was given everyday. The toilet was surprisingly good and not smelly. A tea cosy for the teapot would be good as it was chilly in the mornings so tea went cold quick. As there was no electricity charging devices was a hassle for teenage children. However we found a cafe not to far away who when we ate let us charge everything ready for the day emlyns cafe. The is lots of space and when the dog popped over the children spent ages playing with him. It’s a good location and highly recommend a trip to new quay. Get on a boat trip we payed £44 for 3 of us for 1.5 hour trip and saw lots of dolphins. Aberystwyth is about 40mins drive away but worth the trip.

Disliked: No electricity but was aware before we came and the lamp that had a USB port on it needed charging to work.

Bell tent

Liked: Thoroughly enjoyed the short break. The tent was very comfortable and cosy with plenty of room for both of us. It was great having such a large area to ourselves - about half an acre. It is a beautiful, unspoilt part of Wales with lovely views. The manager was very welcoming and helpful. We will be back in the summer.
