  • Shepherd’s hut and private outdoor hot tub with countryside views
  • A 15-minute drive to the Shropshire Hills and 20 to Llandrindod Wells
  • Unit has a kitchenette, double bed, shower room, TV and woodburner
Step up into the wood-panelled Padarn's Hut in the Powys countryside and you’ll enter the smartly kitted-out interior of your top-notch temporary home. This compact and well-equipped place has all the bits and bobs you need for a comfy stay, from a kitchenette to a small shower room. A double bed is at the centre of the open-plan layout, and everything’s topped off with a woodburning stove and TV for cosy nights in. As well as being homely indoors, the hut’s outside space area is fab too with its views of the green surrounds from the patio furniture and the private hot tub. Done with basking in the bubbles? If you know the area, you’ll already be aware that rural doesn’t mean ‘in the middle of nowhere’ – Llanbadarn Fynydd is a 15-minute walk away and has a handy village shop as well as a highly rated pub serving food. You won’t need to get in the car for days out either, as walking and cycling paths run from the hut’s door. If you don’t mind driving, dawdles across the Shropshire Hills Area of Natural Beauty are reachable within 15 minutes, while pony trekking, red-kite feeding and the Elan Valley dams are 25 minutes away in Rhaeadr. Be sure to visit nearby towns like Llandrindod Wells (20 minutes) and Newtown (25 minutes) as well for heaps of shops, eateries and museums.

Local attractions

You’re going to want to spend most of your time in the hot tub while holidaying here, but if you do have some time to space there’s plenty in the Powys area to have a gander at. Start with investigating the local region’s past at stately pads like the neo-Elizabethan house Abbey Cwmhir Hall (20 minutes' drive) before moving onto Powis Castle (20 minutes), a massive medieval building that manages to be both a fortress and a country mansion. If horticultural rather than historical explores are preferred, get a glimpse of Glansevern Hall Gardens (half an hour) on the River Severn’s banks, then pile up on plants at the Coed-Y-Dinas garden centre (35 minutes). Like your nature a bit wilder? Check out Llandrindod Wells Lake (20 minutes), join the Glyndwr's Way walking trail (15 minutes) or canter through the countryside on a horse from the Underhill riding centre (20 minutes). Top towns to go a little out of your way for once you’re done with strolling through the splendid scenery include Ludlow with its Tudor houses and the book-themed settlement of Hay-on-Wye (both an hour away).

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: The scenery is beautiful, lovely walks, and we like the privacy, and the hot tub is an added bonus too. This was our third visit and will definitely be going back.

Disliked: The flies are a nuisance but easily sorted with fly spray. This obviously didn’t put us off our stay.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: The hut is gorgeous and well thought out for small living. Lovely finishing touches and quick communication from the owner. Loved seeing the different birds and a night sky that’s not affected by light pollution. Perfect if you like to be away from everything.

Disliked: Not a dislike but to make people aware if they want to nip to the local shop to grab basics on their arrival - it shuts early on the weekend (think it was midday) and by 5pm in the week. Nearest supermarkets outside of these times are around a 25minute drive away.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: We stayed for 2 nights and had a fantastic time. The hut is absolutely stunning, complete with microwave-grill, hob and toaster. The hut as its own ensuite, small shower but perfect. The kitchen equipment is enough for 2 people with all crockery and pots/pans etc. We had kitchen roll and tea towel/oven glove and dish washing equipment. The hut is very secluded, we didn't see another person except for a farmer tending his sheep. The under-floor heating is brilliant and makes the hut lovely and warm. It also has a small log burner which we had no need to light as the underfloor heating was sufficient. The bed is one of the most comfortable we have ever slept in with Welsh blankets to throw over if chilly. The outside area is beautiful with a fire pit to toast marshmallows and have a few drinks around, a superb hot tub which was already heated prior to our arrival, and a pizza oven for homemade pizzas. Once in that hot tub it makes no difference to the temperature outside and is a wonderful addition. The whole site is private and is not overlooked and is well cared for. We had several visits from sheep (fenced off from the hut), squirrels and birds of prey. Totally magical sitting around the fire pit in the evening listening to the owls. The nearest pub is 4 miles away (The Red Lion), which we visited for an evening meal. The food was lovely and plenty of it, and we were made to feel most welcome.

Shepherd's hut (hot tub)

Liked: Unique accommodation, very hidden away which makes for a very private setting. Good locality for lots of walking. Hot tub great to use. Good range of facilities for such a small space. And plenty of logs left for use on the log burner.

Disliked: Make sure you get instructions where to find the key before you arrive. The local pub has shut down, so everything is a drive away.
