  • Dog-friendly bell tents with green surroundings and the Dulas river
  • A 20-minute walk from Dyfi Bike Park; 25 minutes’ drive to the beach
  • Firepit, logburner and gas stove provided; pubs and shops nearby
Digging out a den where mountains, mountain biking and the coast are within driving distance? Then, the dog-friendly bell tents at Dyfi Dens are a good place to duck down on the outskirts of the Snowdonia National Park in Powys, 25 minutes’ drive from the nearest beach in Aberdyfi. With green surroundings and the Dulas river running through the site, relaxing and recharging here should be a breeze. Whether you prefer to start the day with one of the scenic walks surrounding the site or putting some porridge on the gas stove in your tent, you should be cosy with all the facilities. The bell tent is well-equipped and well-maintained with a logburner and an en-suite hot shower and composting toilet for your sole use. As for your kitchen arsenal, that includes saucepans, utensils, plates, cups and cutlery. When you’re not in your proper bed under the canvas, there’s a firepit outside to watch the views (or sunset). You might want to head out instead and handily, the local town of Machynlleth is 10 minutes’ drive or 50 minutes’ walk away. Aside from the great pubs, local shops and takeaways, there’s a leisure centre with parking and an art museum to trifle with here by the day. Adventurous souls in your pack might also want to wander down to the Dyfi Bike Park, just 20 minutes’ walk away, and home to some pretty cool mountain bike runs and jumps.

Bell tent

Liked: We went for a 2 night get away and it was just what we needed. The site was in a stunning location and very clean. The tent was lovely and perfect for our family of 6 and 2 dogs. It was a great location for days out or you could just go on beautiful walks in the local area. We loved it.

Bell tent

Liked: We loved our stay. The facilities were clean, neat, comfortable and tidy. Owner was very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. The river just in front of the bell tents is an added bonus and feels like your own "private" beach.

Bell tent

Liked: We really enjoyed our stay here! The view was so lovely to wake up to, we liked how there wasn’t too many people around and it was very nice and peaceful. The interior of the tent was very cozy, we loved the fire place which kept us nice and warm in the night time. The owner was very helpful as my daughter left her teddy there and she kindly posted it to us! We had much needed family time which was very nice as we could relax and get away for a bit xx

Liked: Really enjoyed the location watching the kingfisher on the river and listening to all the bird song. The night sky was also brilliant, no light pollution. The tent was big and well equipped for our couple of nights stay.

Bell tent

Liked: The hosts were lovely they did their best to make our stay pleasant. The tent and the shower were nice and clean. There is a small river on your 'door'step it's suitable for even the smallest kids to play in. There's a sandy, dog-friendly beach in 20 mins drive. It's a beautiful area we are planning to come back next year.

Disliked: There is a busy road nearby, so it's not really a quiet rural place to stay. I would have liked a washing line somewhere.

Local attractions

When you're ready to add some of the seaside into the mix, Aberdyfi beach (25 minutes’ drive) is a good antidote for those of you in search of some new surf. Alongside the pretty harbour, there are surf-worthy waves on the sandy beach and opportunities to dabble in some windsurfing or sailing too. From the coast to the mountains, up in Snowdonia National Park, Cadair Idris (45 minutes) is one for the books. As the highest peak in south Snowdonia, the views are really quite splendid. Just make sure to strap on some sturdy shoes, as it's quite a long hike all the way to the top. Aiming to take on a new activity while you’re on your holiday? Then, you might want to try your hand at shooting (or sharpen up your existing skills) in the Dovey Valley Shooting Ground (15 minute’ drives), where they run lessons and group sessions. While your eyes are on the sky, the Dyfi Osprey Project (15 minutes) is all about seeing ospreys in the flesh. And for another learning-packed detour, The Centre for Alternative Technology (15 minutes’ walk) is next door to the farm with sustainable and green energy structures and displays.
