  • Family-friendly north Wales site with views of the mountains and sea
  • A 15-minute drive from Nefyn and Aberdaron; 25 minutes from Pwllheli
  • Half an hour’s walk from two pubs and an equestrian centre
Roll out of the hay and wake up to views of the mountains and the distant sea, then head out to the local fishing villages, sailing resorts and sandy bays. Whether you’ve tackled the excellent surf or spent a day wild swimming and ticking off the local beaches, relaxation is the priority at Cwmwd. On the Llŷn Peninsula, this is just the spot to chill out, or maybe take a brief snooze out in the countryside or tuck into a snack (or two, or three) after a walk to the site’s forest viewpoint. The place has direct access to a forest with a swinging seat and sweet, sweet views. The family-friendly site has a portable toilet on site, but no shower. If you fancy something tasty to eat, count yourself lucky. The local village, Sarn Meyllteyrn, is half an hour’s walk away and has two pubs (both serving tasty, typical pub grub). In the other direction, there’s an equestrian centre which runs horse riding lessons and rides. Wondering which beach to descend upon first? Nefyn beach (15 minutes’ drive) has rockpools and views of mountains. Popular pursuits in Aberdaron (15 minutes) include windsurfing, kayaking and boat trips to Bardsey Island, a Site of Special Scientific Interest.

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked: The View is great. Central for touring the Llyn. Nice field site. We were worried about the pitch saying grass and earth, but we had a lovely stay.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Aled was very friendly (as was his black cat), helpful and full of suggestions and information. The caravan is the height of retro 80s luxury and seems almost untouched since then. Spacious, well equipped with a great living room space and a fantastic view of Abersoch bay. Fully functioning and well-equipped kitchen, shower, fridge, TV, (retro) gas fire, cupboards in every possible space, and very comfy beds. We had our own private field next to us for the kids to play in. There were lovely solar light lit paths into the woods with swings and benches at the end to see the view to the mountains and binoculars hanging from the tree. This location is perfect, remote, but in day-trip driving distance of everything - Anglesey, Snowden mountain, local (very good) beaches, castles, pretty towns, steam railways, slate caverns, kids activity centres, the lot. Very good holiday.

Disliked: Could do with washing line for clothes outside, and a sink drying rack.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Clean, quiet ,with necessary utensils.Kitchen was stocked with coffee ,tea and fresh milk in fridge for our arrival.Nice touch with the Welsh cakes .

Disliked: There is only one towel hook on bathroom door .I would suggest two hooks next to shower as well. A tea towel hook would also be useful in kitchen.

Bell tent

Liked: Beautiful place with lovely views, quiet, peaceful and private. Honestly amazing customer service, Aled made us feel so welcome and accommodating. The little touches made our trip so memorable, like the small walk to the viewing point through the woods there were a pair of binoculars to use and the fairy lights around the bell tent. The shoebox with cooking utensils was lovely, everything you need to cook a nice breakfast and a cuppa and some lovely welsh cakes were provided :) It was also in a great location, we managed to get to 3 beaches, Abersoch, Tudweiliog and Morfa Nefyn. We will definitely be back again next summer, thank you!

Local attractions

It’s very much about the sea and all of its splendid activities around these parts. The maritime museum in Nefyn (15 minutes’ drive) might therefore be a convenient place to start, followed by crabbing off the harbour wall. Sailors, set off for Abersoch (20 minutes) to meet like minded sailing folk. Another place to captain a sailing boat is in Pwllheli (25 minutes), which doubles up as a market town. Aberdaron (15 minutes) is another sweet spot. The former fishing village hosts an annual regatta and has a huge stretch of sand, as well as rockpools and caves. At the three-mile-long Porth Neigwl (20 minutes), the bay’s a dream for surfers when the conditions are just right, and kayakers when things are a little calmer. When you’ve had your fill of the coast, Glasfryn Parc (25 minutes) has outdoor activities that don’t involve so much water – well, except for their aqua park, that is. Challenge your co-adventure to a go-kart race perhaps.
