  • Family-run site on Anglesey, with uninterrupted views of Snowdonia
  • Traeth Llanddwyn beach and Pili Palas Nature World 15 minutes’ drive
  • Playground and table tennis; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Exploring the Isle of Anglesey is a cinch when you’re staying at White Lodge Caravan Park, a small family-run site in the village of Pen-lôn, just over half a mile from Newborough, in the south of the island. What’s more, White Lodge sits in the Anglesey Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, meaning that spectacular landscapes and heritage sites are within easy reach. You can park your car right by your pitch on a large level field and set yourself up – that’s if you don’t let the uninterrupted views of Snowdonia, just across the Menai Strait, distract you from the task at hand. While you catch your breath in the shaded seating area adorned with hanging baskets, the kids might want to explore the playground or have a game of table tennis. And if your canine companion is in need of a walk after the journey here, there’s a dog park opposite the site. The coast is about 15 minutes’ drive away, but why drive when you can walk or cycle through Newborough Forest, catching glimpses of the local birdlife? The sandy beach at Traeth Llanddwyn (about one hour on foot) is popular for swimming and watersports – from canoeing to kitesurfing. Amenities on site include a washing-up area with a freezer for ice packs, a launderette and electrical sockets. There are also ladies’ and gents’ toilets and showers. Fancy a pint? The nearest pub is in nearby Newborough (Niwbwrch in Welsh), a 10-minute walk away or a short bus trip along the A4080. The village also has a café, a fish and chip shop and a small store for your provisions.

Local attractions

The Anglesey Transport Museum & Café - Tacla Taid (five minutes’ drive) displays dozens of vintage cars and motorcycles (plus farming and military vehicles) from the 1920s onwards. While the petrolhead in your party marvels at the engines, the kids can blow off some steam in the play area, or have a bite to eat at the café. Animal-loving children might like to visit Foel Farm Park (10 minutes), where they can meet and help feed ponies, donkeys and bunnies, go on a tractor ride through the farm or get messy in the sandpit. For encounters with animals of the winged variety, check out the Butterfly House at Pili Palas Nature World (15 minutes). If you’re curious about sea-salt production, a guided tour of Halen Môn - Anglesey Sea Salt Company (10 minutes) will answer any questions you might have about this much-loved seasoning.
