  • Pop-up glampsite with furnished bell tents in the north Wales valleys
  • A 15-minute drive from Llangollen and the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct
  • Shared well-equipped kitchen area, hammocks and chillout tipi
Check out this Chirk site for gorgeous glamping trips in north Wales – the bell tents at Canvas Hamlet, Chirk are placed alongside the Ceiriog river for stays in a setting that’s nothing short of lush. This is a top-notch spot for hols with family or a small group, whether you’re keen on calm days lazing by the water’s edge or are after adventures. The site partners with an activity centre in Llangollen (15 minutes’ drive), so there’s rafting, gorge walking, kayaking, canoeing, rock climbing, paintballing and mountain biking to get your kicks from. Such pursuits are all to be had in the knowledge there’s comfy accommodation to come back to after adrenaline-fuelled days out. Settle down in a bell tent furnished with LED lanterns, rugs, floor cushions, chairs, a storage box and a table, as well as an outside dining area with a couple of benches. Your double futon bed with a memory foam mattress is fully made up with a duvet, pillows and linens, while single beds are added depending on the number of guests booked per tent (please bring your own duvets and pillows for these). The park’s communal facilities aren’t to be sniffed at either – put your feet up in the chillout tipi with tables, chairs, rattan sofas and coffee tables or outside in one of the six hammocks. Other shared amenities include a kitchen equipped with cookers, kettles, a sink, microwave, fridge, pots, pans, knives and bowls; basically, all the bits and bobs you need for whipping up a meal to eat in the undercover dining tent. Your accommodation also has a set of crockery and cutlery, plus an assigned electric coolbox is in the kitchen to keep your perishables chilled. If hanging out in the hammocks for hours on end has you hankering after an activity to blow away the cobwebs, set off on a stroll straight from the grounds – there are four main walks through Wrexham scenery. Or join in as the kids play on the swing or while using the football goals and volleyball net.

Local attractions

Embrace the adventures available in the area, from kayaking to rock climbing, before seeking out some of the stellar sightseeing spots. Llangollen (15 minutes’ drive) has a canal walk to wander along for starters and a fab collection of cafés, bars and restaurants. After you’ve indulged in one of the town’s eateries, peer up at the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct (10 minutes), a local attraction that soars 126-foot-high over the Dee valley – hence its nickname, ‘the stream in the sky’. Another smart structure to set your gaze on is Chirk Castle (15 minutes) with its 700-year history and award-winning landscape covering 5.5 acres of well-kept lawns, yews, borders and rose, shrub and rock gardens.
