  • Gower Peninsula glamping within walking distance of Caswell Bay
  • A 10-minute drive to The Mumbles, and 20 minutes to Swansea
  • Off-grid, pre-erected bell tents; shops and pubs 15 minutes’ walk
How might you fancy spending your holiday a short walk away from one of the Gower Peninsula's finest stretches of sand – and with comfy tents set up and all ready to move into? If that sounds appealing, take a look at Caswell Bay Glamping, a small, non-smoking glampsite just five minutes’ walk from Caswell Bay beach. Caswell's a lovely beach, but it's not the only option from this site 20 minutes' drive from central Swansea. In fact, it’s close to most of the main beaches on the Gower Peninsula and a short drive from the popular family sands at The Mumbles. Open to families and couples only, the site's bell tents have been designed to take the hassle out of your holiday without the expense of full-service glamping. Simply arrive on the level camping meadow and move in – your holiday has begun. Each tent is partly furnished with thick coir mats, double and single air beds, a table and camping chairs. Everything else – from bedding to pillows and sleeping bags – you will need to bring with you. For food, pick up supplies from the convenience store in Bishopton (15 minutes’ walk), which also has pubs, takeaways and a farm shop. Back at the site, portable chemical loos are on hand as well as recycling bins and mains water from a standpipe. Please note that there are no showers, and as this is an off-grid site with no electricity, you'll need to bring a reliable torch (there's no street lighting around either). No dogs are allowed as the camping field is surrounded by fields of grazing horses and sheep.

Bell tent

Liked: We loved our mini break. The field was huge. We parked our campervan next to the bell tent. The bell tent had mattresses, chairs and water on arrival. We then cooked our food in the camper. There were toilets which were clean. We loved the outdoor space and freedom.

Local attractions

Surfers, paddleboarders and swimmers can stroll down to Caswell Bay beach (15 minutes’ walk), which has surfing schools and places to rent gear. Other beaches within walking distance include Brandy Cove (half an hour), backed by steep cliffs and good for rock pooling, and Pwll Du (40 minutes), pebbly and dog-friendly and requiring a short walk over rough terrain to access. Golfers should be in seventh heaven here, with four golf courses within 10 minutes’ drive, including a course with far-reaching sea views at Langland Bay. Keen sea anglers can pick up day charters in The Mumbles (10 minutes’ drive) for the chance to catch pollack, bass and turbot, while sightseeing cruises leave from the same harbour to explore the Gower Peninsula coastline – keep your eyes peeled for dolphins and porpoises. Mix a bit of culture into your seaside break with a day trip to Swansea (20 minutes), where you can learn about Welsh heritage at the interactive National Waterfront Museum, potter around the ruins of Swansea Castle and have a drink in the trendy Maritime Quarter.
