  • Spectacular setting for the Gower Peninsula, overlooking Oxwich Bay
  • Refurbished eco-friendly shower block with underfloor heating
  • Large adventure playground
You will, of course, have heard of the great Gower Peninsula. This spectacular south Wales spot of cliffs, coves, caves and bays is so handsome it was designated the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK way back in 1956, made up of 70 square miles from Loughor Estuary to Swansea Bay; if you've never been, this really must be on your holiday list. The folk at award-winning Greenways of Gower Premier Leisure Park reckon their location is 'second to none' for Gower camping – and once you arrive there, you'll reckon they're right. Right in the centre of the peninsula, Greenways overlooks stunning Oxwich Bay and its two and a half miles of golden sands, once named as the best beach in Britain; Rhossili Bay, several times voted the best beach in Wales, is under 20 minutes' drive from here. Greenways is a family-run and family-orientated park, with grass pitches and plenty of space. Gratified previous guests have lauded the amenities as 'exceptional': they include an eco-friendly and modern shower block with underfloor heating running off an air source heat pump, plus disabled facilities and a parent and baby washroom. For leisurely pursuits, a big adventure playground is next to the camping area. There's also a pizza truck and a pop-up bar on site (these two are available on weekends in the summer or on bank holidays). Shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

Disliked: Pricey for no electrical hook up. Have to walk on quite busy road to get to beach.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Very friendly atmosphere. Felt very safe - security people on hand for any issues. Toilet and shower block was big and in good condition. Great location - a ten minute walk down to the beach and beautiful woodlands nearby for hikes/country walks. There was a pizza bus in the field over from our pitch- great for the day we’d taken a long walk and were too tired to cook!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good clean, spacious bathroom and other facilities. Although large it was a quiet site. Great views, plenty of space for kids to play. Pizza Bus and bar which did not disturb the site.

Disliked: Very steep hill from the beach to walk up. Fine for us, may not be suitable for all. Advertising said WiFi, but was £5/day, would have used if weather was bad.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Enjoyed our bank holiday weekend here. Close to Oxwich beach and lovely coastal walks. Facilities were plentiful and cleaned regularly. There was a pizza van and a bar open when we went. The pizza van was playing loud music but kindly turned it down when I asked what time it would go off. Busy but not overcrowded.

Disliked: Showers were excessively hot! No way to turn them down!

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Love the facilities block. It was amazing. Spotlessly clean at all times. I only found one cobweb and I was looking for them after seeing other reviews. Plenty of toilet roll in locked dispensers so people couldn’t walk off with it. Free hot showers. The block itself was lovely and warm. The washing up area was indoors again with free hot water and two large freezers to use. Laundry facilities were reasonable priced too and there was even. Coffee machine for drinks at a charge. Iron and hairdryers also available for a small fee. The facility was sympathetically planted with trees, so not an eye sore. Pet friendly with poo bins on site. We picked a great pitch with a lovely view, but it was a bit exposed. A more sheltered pitch would have been better given the weather, but that was our mistake. There are more sheltered pitches on site. Pitches are quite flat too. Thought the bar & pizza place was quite reasonably priced given its monopoly. £6 pint & £12 pizza. Do need a £2 deposit for glasses though. Loved the easy access to footpaths near by. No need to take the car anywhere to walk.

Disliked: The fact that the pitches weren’t marked out. Didn’t like the fact that we had to pay £16 for the dog and extra for our gazebo which extendes our small tent when others with tents twice the size of ours just paid the flat fee. WiFi charged as an extra. Didn’t need it though as excellent phone signal.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Lovely campsite with easy walking distance to the beach. The toilet / shower facilities were kept clean and they were lovely and warm (which in the cold evenings / mornings was definitely appreciated)! We also loved that there was security doing the rounds every so often, it was especially helpful as there was an incident between two dogs and the security were quick to respond and the matter didn’t escalate. The last thing I’ll mention is the social area where you can get amazing pizzas and cocktails from a double decker bus, they had great seating under canopy and open with twinkly lights. We had a great evening there. There are so many good points to mention but these were our highlights!

Disliked: Nothing!

Local attractions

The stunning sands of Oxwich Bay and their fringe of dunes, woodland and coastal footpath should be your first Gower Peninsula port of call, for long lazy days sunbathing and sandcastle building, summer watersports such as sailing, swimming, windsurfing and diving, and boat and jetski launch from the beach. Around the sands, this is prime walking land: take the Gower Coast Path from the bay for a three-and-a-half-mile coastal and woodland ramble to Oxwich Point, or around the same distance from the bay to Port Eynon Walk via Three Cliffs Bay and Port Head. The wetland site of Oxwich National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is also well worth a wander. For a city sightseeing day, Swansea is half an hour's drive from the park.
