  • A five-minute walk to Pontypool Golf Club; 15 minutes up Garn Wen
  • Spacious pitches; bring dogs for no added charge
Seeking seclusion, scenery and space? Willow Acres Campsite has the lot in good measure – and with lots of extras thrown in for free too. Located on Lasgarn Farm, in Torfaen countryside and with fine Brecon Beacons and Severn Estuary views, this peaceful site is run by third-generation farmers looking for eco-friendly ways to support the future of their farm, and who care passionately about the environment (as you’ll see from the compost loo and the handmade wooden shower cubicles). Pitches here have been created from individually cut areas in a lovely wild meadow, with plenty of space for up to six guests on each one. The space is yours to use as you please – there are no extra charges for dogs or cars, making these pitches a great option for families or small groups. Outdoor evenings here are a real highlight – each pitch has a firepit provided. Have a go at cooking your dinner over flames, or wander up to the fabulous covered outdoor kitchen to create something more elaborate (it’s fully set up with a gas hob and all the dishes and pots and pans you might require, so there’s no need to bring much with you). Please bring a torch as this is a dark-skies site, with no light after dark but the chance to spot the Milky Way glittering far above on clear nights. Pontypool (10 minutes’ drive) is just down the road if you fancy a night out at the pubs and restaurants though.

Liked: Good sized pitches with multiple tents allowed Outdoor covered kitchen area per pitch was great and equipped with basics so less to bring Fire pit and free bag of wood was fun Nice to have a communal area Clean, well working toilets Beautiful walk up to trig point about 20mins walk behind campsite Friendly hosts who came each evening to check all ok

Disliked: Shower not great but didn’t detract from our stay

Curly non-electric grass tent pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: My son and I enjoyed this site, my son ended up playing with the wardens dog, Nice views, offered a lead to extend my electrical hook-up. will be using again.

Disliked: Could do with another shower, but this is a known problem, council has denied the request. If you could sort some WIFI, that would be amazing as phone signal was poor, which made planning events for the day hard.

From the manager: Thank you for the review, we are getting new showers for next season!

Jill non-electric grass motorhome pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: We came in our campervan and loved the setting amongst a wildflower meadow. Also the huts you get with each pitch are an excellent idea! The walks from the door are stunning. You're literally in the middle of nowhere and you can either go up the local hill where you get stunning views of the estuary and the blank mountains, or walk through wildflower meadows and woodlands. It really is lovely.

Disliked: My only reason for dropping one star is that the toilet facilities are basic. While clean and functional, to me the toilets and showers are the key to a good campsite and their basic nature (no lights for at night for example) do let the campsite down slightly. Loved everything else about it though!

From the manager: Thanks for the great review- its very beautiful here we are so proud that it is being received so well. We take on board the comments regarding toilet facilities, we are in the process of improvements and will be replacing the toilet block next season.

Tina non-electric grass tent pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: Private camping pitch, nicely cut into meadow with private kitchen, shower and toilet. Fires allowed, fire and BBQ kit provided, plus communal fridge freezer. Accomodating and friendly site owners. It's expensive camping for sure if you just have one tent, but for what you get it's totally worth it and you can have multiple tents on the same pitch for the same price.

Tina non-electric grass tent pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: The campsite was perfect! Each pitch came with its own kitchenette with a table, benches, gas cooker (with gas provided) and some basic utensils. It made the stay so much more comfortable to have it separate from the tent. There is also a great little communal space with a sink to was dishes and some cosy sofas. They also have freezers and fridges to keep food/ice and there is a Tesco 10 min drive from the site and an Aldi just a bit further so really convenient. The people who owned it were amazing, so friendly and helpful. One of the ladies walked us down to the woods and gave us clear directions on how to walk to the nearest pub. Google maps will say an hour but it’s 20 mins if you cut through, a toughish walk on some rocks but nothing too hard. They were really attentive and they came around each night to check if we needed wood for the fire. We camped in Tina which was big enough for 6 of us with 3 decent sized tents. It was in the shade from about 1pm so if you want sun I’d go for another pitch as they all stayed in the sun all day. There was however a little seating area on the opposite side of the site which gets the sun all day, we got 6 camping chairs around that and there’s a little table so convenient for drinks/board games. Honestly 10/10! We didn’t do much exploring as we were only there 3 days and mainly wanted to chill out. There were families there with children off out doing things so I’m sure there are bits to do! 3 cute pubs if you do the walk through the woods, we got a taxi back from Dragon taxis who are based in Pontypool however it was only £15 so really reasonable! We got a domino’s delivered one night and they found it easily. For any vegans, there’s an amazing pub 20 minute drive away in Cwmbran which is so worth the drive, even meat eaters will love it.

Bonnie and Dot non-electric grass tent pitch (private bathroom amenities)

Liked: The kitchen area was excellent! We had bad weather one day and it was great to have an outdoor space that was dry. It was also nice to not have to take all the gear for the weekend. Also liked that each pitch was clearly marked and individual compost toilets & showers per pitch. Everything was clean. Friendly owners and nice walks from site.
