  • Family-friendly Carmarthenshire site under a mile from Marros Sands
  • In the grounds of a riding centre; 15 minutes' drive to Folly Farm
  • Games area, cooking shelters, picnic tables and firepits on site
Pick your plot in the six-acre meadow at Horseshoe Camping… at this family-friendly site, you’ll be next door to a horse riding centre for peaceful countryside treks and within walking distance of several sandy beaches primed for rummaging through rockpools, kicking around a ball or paddles around the shore. Surrounded by a large strip of woodlands, there’s much exploring to be done around the site too (or coastal paths for when you want to tick off the nearby coves). How to spend your downtime on site? Well, perhaps you’ll want to spy on horses in the neighbouring fields or let yourself unwind beside a firepit when the sun goes down. Each pitch comes with its own firepit, composting toilet and cooking shelter to help you come up with some new cooking concoctions. When the food’s ready, there’s a picnic table to dig in. As for other facilities around the site, there's a climbing frame, a shared space with a fridge and freezer, phone charging points and a washing-up area. If a meal out is calling your name, the nearest pub is a two-minute drive and there are plenty more restaurants and pubs beside the sea within five minutes’ drive, either beside the beach at Marros Sands or in the Pendine coastal town (a good place to source any food bits you need from the shops).

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Friendly, welcoming hosts. Own toilet cubicles are an absolute luxury when camping and the private wooden hut on each pitch proved incredibly useful, both for storage and shelter from the occasional shower! Our pitch had been freshly mowed/prepared before our arrival, which was a nice welcome. And the recycling units on each pitch are very helpful too. The Honesty Shop had some useful products and the kids loved the play area. Overall an easy 5 stars. We would book here again!

Disliked: Only feedback would be about contactability of the hosts. None of our attempts to call someone, both before and during our stay, were picked up. We didn't have a need for this much and we always received a message in response (anywhere from minutes to hours later). But this could be improved. Hosts could keep mobile phone on their person during the daytime perhaps? And make a point to pick up thereafter? Just a suggestion.

Clydesdale bell tent

Liked: We had an amazing time at Horseshoe Camping. We do bell tent holidays yearly and this is definitely our favorite campsite! Bell tent: We felt like everything was well thought out to provide a great experience, from small details like a rope to hang wet towels, fridge space in a communal area, to the private kitchen/eating area with all essentials included - gas cooker, plates, pans etc. So even in rainy weather, we could relax outside under the roof and cook a warm meal. Private toilet next to the tent. Lovely decor inside the tent and very comfortable bed. Campsite: Very well organised, clean showers and large washing up area. Loved the Honesty Hut where you could get some snacks and essentials. The honesty system adds such a positive energy:) Location was great, lots of beaches nearby but our favorite was secluded beach, around 30 min walk from the campsite. What a gem! Thank you Lottie and Matt!

Shire bell tent

Liked: Everything! The bell tent was wonderful, the bed was comfortable and the added touches like the lights and plants were great. The kitchen area had everything you needed! Having a toilet was perfect with a 3 year old and the honesty hut was a lovely addition for any missing things. The space allocated for each pitch was great. We had a lovely stay and would definitely come back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Everything! Location, cleanliness, facilities, friendliness of owners, distance between pitches. Everything about Horseshoe camping was wonderful. We had our own toilet, covered bench area, campfire setup with benches, and there was a hot shower a two minute walk away on the other side of the site. We sadly didn’t get to go horse riding but we heard faint neighing in the mornings which was dreamy. There’s enough space between pitches that we couldn’t hear neighbouring pitches (with kids) and they couldn’t hear us either. 15/10!! Genuinely can’t recommend highly enough.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This is a REALLY special campsite!! I've been camping for many many years and have never stayed on a site quite as well organised, thoughtfully arranged and beautifully located as this. Each pitch has its own compost loo and cooking / eating shelter. There's a wonderful and almost totally unpopulated beach that has no car access within 30 min walking distance (and it's a stunning walk) There's plenty of space between each pitch and a play park for the kids that's slap bang in the centre of the field so the little ones have freedom and parents have peace of mind. I love honesty system the shop operates on and the culture of trust that creates between the owners - who are a friendly young family themselves - and the campers. This day in age we need to encourage more of that behaviour. The showers were really nice, the pitches were well maintained and easy to pitch up on and the owners weren't watching the clock when it came to check in and check out times. Literally zero complaints, dislikes or criticisms whatsoever. Highly recommended for families who enjoy a good walk, love cooking on site (as opposed to getting chips / pizza / takeaway stuff) and don't require a bar on site. We're already talking about returning next year. Thank you!

Liked: We loved everything about Horseshoe Camping and will definitely be back....it's a beautiful, well kept site and very peaceful. Lottie and Matt were super friendly and helpful. The undercover cooking/eating area with individual recycling boxes was amazing ....and the addition of the canvas sides is genius......loved the attention to detail. Local attractions

How to dally away your day? With trots from Marros Riding Centre (five minutes’ walk) or putting down roots on the sheltered Marros Sands (five minutes’ drive)? Sliding around the sand dunes or scouting out rock pools at Morfa Bychan (10 minutes) or watersports down Amroth Beach (10 minutes)? The coast doesn’t end there… there’s the beachfront in Laugharne (15 minutes), dunes and a sandy beach at Pendine Sands (15 minutes) and all the life in Tenby (25 minutes), from the harbour and beaches to fishing activities. While you’re in Wales, it’s only right that you see where one famed Welsh poet’s words were written. Perhaps you’ll find inspiration for your own at the Dylan Thomas Boathouse and Café (15 minutes). Or maybe you’d like to imagine you’re defending the mighty medieval Laugharne Castle (15 minutes). There’s a different kind of escape into the heritage woodlands at the National Trust’s Colby Woodland Garden (10 minutes) and again at the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (15 minutes) where the farm-themed rides will take the kids on a spin.
