  • Family-run site on a spacious smallholding in rural Carmarthenshire
  • Saundersfoot beach and Oakwood Theme Park within a half-hour drive
  • Firepits and picnic benches provided; meet the animals on site
Seeking a sense of freedom? Lots of space to run about or sit quietly and appreciate the nature all around? Book yourselves into Frowen Fields, a family-run site in the Carmarthenshire countryside, about 10 minutes’ drive from Whitland (and the A40, for easy arrivals, departures and days out). There’s a splendid 20 acres of space to play with here, including natural streams and woodlands as well as the main farm area, which is home to pigs, goats, sheep, ducks and quails (all available to meet and greet by booking a feeding session on site). It’s all set in a scenic spot in West Wales, with views over the Preseli Hills and lots of places to get out for walks, beach trips and family days out nearby. Getting out and about around Carmarthenshire and neighbouring Pembrokeshire should be pretty easy from here, but it’s really worth allowing for a bit of time spent on site too. It’s all been set up to focus on the simple essentials and allow guests to switch off from modern life without losing all the basic comforts of life. With that in mind, guests can use toilets and hot showers on site, and there are also picnic benches and firepits for long evenings of alfresco cooking and stargazing. You can also go for nature walks on site, through the woodlands and onto local public footpaths, or take the kids on a fairy house hunt around the grounds.

Local attractions

Once you’ve taken a wander around the farm’s own space, head out to explore more of the local landscape. This part of the world is, of course, famed for its stunning coastline – so you may like to make your first stops at some of the nearby beaches, including Pendine Sands, Saundersfoot (both half an hour’s drive) or surf hotspot Newgale (40 minutes). If you’d like to mix in a bit more activity while you’re here, try days out at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (25 minutes), rides galore at Oakwood Theme Park (25 minutes) or busy days at Heatherton World of Activities (40 minutes). Something a little more relaxing? How about a walk around the ruins of Whitland Abbey (15 minutes), a stroll from Llansteffan’s beach to its castle (35 minutes) or some time exploring the National Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes)? Or there’s always the option of visiting Velfrey Vineyard (15 minutes) for a tour, a tasting and/or a spot of lunch among the vines…
