  • Scenic and spacious off-grid family-friendly site in Carmarthenshire
  • A 25-minute drive to the Brecon Beacons and Dinefwr Castle
  • Free wood for firepits; activities such as watersports run by the site
Countryside scenery and outdoor activities galore… that’s the case at Llansawel Agored, a scenic and spacious family-friendly site in the Carmarthenshire countryside. At this 20-acre area without a road in sight and red kites often passing overhead, it’s just as easy to get down to relaxation as it is to get stuck into activities run by the site. With the river Cothi nearby and the Twyi and Teifi, Usk Reservoir and Brecon canal within driving distance, it’s no surprise that some of these are on the water. Canoeing and paddleboarding are both on the go… and on the land side, there are bushcraft, yoga and mindfulness activities to book onto (you should hopefully feel rather zen after all of that). Clear night skies are a regular occurrence here too, so you might fancy indulging in a spot of stargazing at night. There’s free firewood available for those of you wanting to get a properly ambient evening on the go with a firepit, and the pitches are well spaced out, so you’ll have a fair bit of privacy for it. In terms of facilities, there’s a composting toilet on site, as well as water to help yourself to. And when you’re ready to potter on down to a pub, you’ll be in luck, as there’s just the spot down the road (a 15-minute walk away to be exact). The nearest shop is a little further, at around 15 minutes' drive away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The rural location is perfect for a trip where you can forget about all of the hustle and bustle of day to day life ! The campsite is set perfectly in to the surrounding area, Rhys has set up the site with all of the amenities (showers, toilets, washing up, seating ect) tut you and your group will need, ensuring your rural trip is remains authentic comfortable. You can see the hard work that has gone into this site and it’s lovely to have a site that is not full of camper vans ! Rhys thought of everything to even provides really handy wheelbarrows for you and your group to take your equipment to each of the individually set pitches. Finally Rhys him self as a top bloke taking the time to introduce himself fully, have a chat and show our group around the campsite. Top marks !!

Disliked: There is nothing to dislike about this site whatsoever !

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Although I only stayed for one night while travelling through I would like to stay again for a longer period of time. Rhys was very friendly and helpful, hot showers and cold cooler blocks were great additions. When the rain stopped and the stars came out the campfire made for a great evening.

Local attractions

While there are certainly plenty of activities in full flow on the site, those of you who are still looking to get your full fill of the outdoors will have a few more places to go. To begin with, there’s mountain biking in Brechfa on the Raven MTB Trail (15 minutes’ drive). Then for sports of the wetter kind, the Llandysul Paddlers Canoe Centre (25 minutes) runs kayaking, canoeing and whitewater rafting. Those of you who'd rather have a beach as the backdrop should find New Quay (45 minutes) is a good call… and there are plenty of fish and chip shops for afters. Hikes in the Brecon Beacons National Park (25 minutes) and gentler strolls around the National Botanic Garden of Wales (35 minutes) may well round off your outdoorsy adventures, but historical sites could come into play too. First of all, there’s the only known Roman mine in all of the UK almost down the road at the National Trust’s Dolaucothi Gold Mines (10 minutes). After that, castle ruins might give you a good play-through of the history books around here, as the National Trust’s Dinefwr Castle (25 minutes) and the 13th-century Carreg Cennen Castle (half an hour) are also a short drive away.
