  • Quiet family-friendly glampsite on a Carmarthenshire smallholding
  • A 20-minute drive to Brechfa Forest; 35 minutes to Aberaeron
  • Playground and communal kitchen; pubs and shops five minutes’ drive
Looking for somewhere peaceful to hunker down in Carmarthenshire countryside? You’ll certainly find quiet and calm at Twin Bleats Farm, a small glampsite tucked into a hillside smallholding on the edge of Llanllwni village in West Wales. It might be small, but there’s plenty of space for adventure at Twin Bleats Farm. Kids can work off energy at the playground with climbing wall and treehouse, play hide-and-seek in the woodland and go paddling in Nant Ceiliog stream. Or how about helping the owners to feed the chickens and goats? You could also grab the walking boots and set out on a hike directly from the farm. Stunning views await up the hill behind the pitches, and you’ll more than likely bump into sheep or Shetland ponies in the neighbouring fields. Convenient facilities include the fully equipped campers’ kitchen with seating for eating undercover. There are proper flushing loos and hot showers available for all guests to use as well. If you fancy a change of scenery, there’s a foodie pub serving classic bistro dishes at 10 minutes’ walk away – leave the car behind at your pitch and and make a night of it. Llanybydder (five minutes’ drive) also has a couple of takeaways and inns, and if you need restock of groceries, there’s a small supermarket there too. Lampeter (15 minutes) is the place for major shopping jaunts.

2 bedroom static caravan

Liked: Nice quiet place in a beautiful area. The hosts were really nice and helpful. The children enjoyed the farm animals and the climbing wall.

Disliked: You might say that the caravan and its interior is a bit outdated. I would prefer a better bed.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Hidden gem , small and peace’s campsite on a smallholding. Lots of thoughtful features to make life easier when camping with small children. Especially the campers kitchen and all the pots, pans and crockery plus oven, toaster, kettle and fridge freezer. Better stocked than some holiday homes I’ve stayed in. Nice cosy, secluded feel with hedges around each of the pitches. Kids loved being able to feed the goats and chickens every day.

Liked: Rented 2 x bell tents with small children. Amazing location and the facilities were exceptional. Owners were amazing with our children and happily helped them feed the on-site farm animals. Local attractions

If you’re keen to get out and active, Brechfa Forest (20 minutes’ drive) has scenic walks through the trees and alongside streams, while serious cyclists can test their mettle on the challenging trails at Brechfa – Mountain Bike Wales (25 minutes). There’s more biking and hiking to be had in Brecon Beacons National Park (45 minutes), and water-based fun at Llandysul Paddlers Club and Canoe Centre (15 minutes). When nothing but a day at the beach will do, well… Cardigan Bay it is. Plan a visit to the crescent of sandy beach at New Quay for the chance for a summertime dip and maybe to spot bottlenose dolphins. Head for the pretty fishing harbour at Aberaeron (both 35 minutes) for a wander along the waterfront and pick up fish and chips for tea. To learn more about the centuries-old heritage of Wales, have a poke around the mighty medieval ruins of Carmarthen Castle, or head to the former mine workings at National Trust-owned Dolaucothi Gold Mines (both half an hour) for subterranean tours and a go at panning for gold.
