  • Peaceful, scenic and secluded site in pretty woodland valley
  • A 30-minute drive from Oakwood Theme Park and 35 from Cardigan
  • Pembrokeshire Coast National Park within a 10-minute drive
In need of a break from the same old drudgery? Let your hair down at Digs in the Wig, a family-friendly Pembrokeshire site 25 minutes’ drive from Cardigan. The site is nicely secluded, set back from the road in a woodland valley and crisscrossed with foxglove-lined paths. It’s peaceful too… numbers are kept deliberately small so that pitches are far enough apart to be private (but close enough to allow for socialising, if meeting the neighbours appeals). Pitches have private eco toilets too, so no accidental midnight rendezvous... It’s an adventurers' paradise around here as well, if days in nature beckon: the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is less than 10 minutes from base for biking and hiking, horse riding, birdwatching and stargazing, and sandy beaches are within easy reach at Cwm yr Eglwys and Newport (both about half an hour away). Fresh coastal breezes and lengthy rambles along the Wales Coast Path (which can be joined half an hour from the site) may get appetites fired up – handily there are firepits dotted around the site for toasty outdoor eats, and self-contained spaces for cooking and eating give some indoor options too.

Liked: Very peaceful Very quiet Great resovoir nearby for walks Friendy hosts Good size pitch

Disliked: Signage We were not in the woods as the pictures suggested but just in a field Only 1 of the four showers worked and it was cold Lots of flies and wasps Premium price but not premium eco-site

From the manager: Hi Daniel I'm sorry you didn't have a perfect stay with us but glad you found it a peaceful and pleasant site. As our other reviews show most people have a great stay here which is what we strive for. With regards to a woodland pitch you only needed to ask! Would have been happy to put you on one. I check all 4 showers daily and make sure they are up to standard and working. I'm sorry you didn't have a great experience but they are usually very good and reliable. My site is not known for flies and wasps but occasionally they do appear in the countryside. My pricing is in line with the Greener Camping Club that we are a proud member of. Regards Howell

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Everything! The pitch was huge and beautiful, with clean shower and toilet, and fabulous wooden cabin. We couldn't have asked for anything more - charging station, brazier and logs, amazing clear night skies with shooting stars, peace and quiet. Howell was so helpful and friendly; our boys, 11 and 13, loved playing ball games in the space; we all loved snuggling in our cabin in the evenings playing board games - it was such a useful space, to dry wetsuits, shelter from the occasional shower, and store stuff. We absolutely loved our stay here.

Disliked: Nothing at all!

Local attractions

The only downside to this site is how close it is to Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm. Rest assured: once the kids find out it’s just half an hour’s drive to both, that’ll be entire hols behind the wheel ferrying them to and fro for hair-raising rides at the former and zoo visits and a fairground at the latter… If they’re miraculously convinced to try something else, there’s plenty to choose from. Make the most of proximity to beaches and spectacular Welsh coastline by heading out for some sea kayaking, surfing, windsurfing or sailing, all within about half an hour of base, or opt for more controlled sea-like environments with a pitstop at Pembrokeshire Wake Park or Blue Lagoon waterpark, both within 25 minutes. There’s history aplenty too, starting with Scolton Manor 15 minutes away. Stately pile aficionados will find lots to learn in the Victorian era gaff, while green-fingered guests will get a particular buzz from wandering the walled garden and visiting the Pembrokeshire Beekeeping Centre. (Don’t forget to pick up a jar of Scolton Manor honey as a wee souvenir). Pembroke Castle, Melin Tregwynt mill and Castell Henllys are each worth a visit too (all within 45 minutes), but more thrill-seeking types might gravitate more towards Wood Park Off-Road, where clambering into a 4x4 and battering along is the order of the day.
