  • Dog-friendly rural Pembrokeshire site three miles from the coast
  • A 10-minute drive from several beaches; 15 minutes from Folly Farm
  • Countryside views, five minutes' drive from pubs and restaurants
Based in a rural location on the outskirts of Pembrokeshire’s little Ludchurch village, it's certainly quiet and private at Thorny Bush… but don’t be fooled into thinking that days out at the likes of family amusements, golden-sand beaches and activity centres are far off. In fact, there are several sandy beaches just 10 minutes’ drive away from the site and attractions for family-friendly days out in abundance in the local area. First, you might be drawn to the golden sands of Saundersfoot beach (10 minutes’ drive) for days of swimming, canoeing, windsurfing or sailing. There are paddleboards or kayaks for hire at Coppet Hall beach (10 minutes), and rockpools to rummage in too. Telpyn beach (10 minutes) is also spectacular, and quieter, with several of the site’s closest pubs and restaurants on the way down (just five minutes’ drive or so from the site). Of course, it’s only natural that the splendid countryside views on site might distract you for some time. Thorny Bush welcomes both dogs and kids, with secure gardens and easy access to popular attractions including Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo 10 minutes’ drive away or a wildlife park, Oakwood Theme Park and activity centres 15 minutes’ drive away. Tracking down something tasty to eat should be pretty straightforward too, as the market town of Narberth is 10 minutes’ drive away from the site for additional restaurant options. The rural setting of the site means all guests will need a car to get around, so load everyone in and get ready for quality time, whether you're travelling as a family, a couple or a group.

The Hive cabin (four person)

Liked: Amazing location so peaceful & beautiful. Lovely views & clear skies at night due to low light pollution. Thoughtful host & good information provided in the welcome book on local restaurants/takeaways. We stayed in The Hive plenty of logs for the lovely fire. Very dog friendly allowed 3 dogs to come along with no extra charge, lots of blankets for them to feel at home. Break was especially needed after having a tough few days prior to this getaway losing our beloved old dog whom we’d planned this laid back trip especially for spending quality time with him & our other 2 dogs.

The Hive cabin (four person)

Liked: The hive is a stunning cabin, I orginally travelled down with two friends and stayed the night and loved the place that much, I travelled back two days later for a solo trip with my dog, it really is an amazing set up they have here. A fenced off garden so that my dog could roam, further fields and forrestry you are free to explore as well. Fresh milk, eggs and logs for the wood burner were left out for us on arrival. I'm already looking to book my return visit here and have passed the details over to friends and family members.

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Lovely and peaceful. Only 2 pitches with a well presented, and clean toilet each. Shower was lovely and hot. Sink area for dish washing. Take a torch as you will need it when it’s dark. Vicky was super lovely and welcoming. Chicken coop near pitch so be mindful if you have a dog and take a tether. Our Cocker Spaniel was very taken with the chickens, spent hours of an evening staring at them in frustration 😂 Enjoyed our stay. The location was great for beaches. Everything just 15-20 mins away in the car.

Disliked: Not to dislike but FYI The approaching lane is very narrow and turning in is quite steep but we managed fine in a camper-van. Not sure how difficult it would be with a large motor home.

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Such an amazing place! Vicki is super friendly and welcoming but respectful of privacy and time too. The site is simply idyllic! I cannot recommend it enough. We had a private toilet for our pitch, facilities were cleaned and checked regularly. The views were wonderful, the homemade chutney was divine and the location was so handy for exploring the area. A little hidden gem - thank you for having us x

Disliked: Nothing at all!

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: The owners were very accommodating and friendly. It was remote, peaceful and stunning views. Shower and toilet were nice. You even had a toilet designated to your pitch, something I have never seen before. Children got to help feed the chickens and absolutely made thier day!

Disliked: The lane to the site is rather narrow however I'm driving a large Luton. Smaller campers and cars will be fine.

Electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Brilliant site for a campervan, the owners are lovely and more than happy to help. the facilities are amazing for a camping trip (especially if in a campervan) with your own toilet, wood available for a fire and a warm shower and wash up area. the setting is beautiful with the local wildlife such as Buzzards and Kites frequently in the air. its a Dark sky area as well so amazing night-time views. With Tenby and Saunderfoot a few miles away and the ability to get to ST Davids, Freshwater West, cardigans bay and Swansea all within 1 hour.

Disliked: Not a dislike but take you own Wi-Fi if camping if you want it. available in the accommodation I believe.

Local attractions

What could be on the itinerary here? Well, aside from excellent Pembrokeshire coastal walks, beaches and watersports, there’s plenty to occupy your time. For example, you might want to put your team’s brainpower to the test with escape rooms such as those at Tenby's Great Escape (15 minutes’ drive). For an active challenge, there are watersports centres around the coast, plus wakeboarding, an aqua park and bouldering at Wild Lakes Wales (15 minutes). Rollercoasters are on the menu at Oakwood Theme Park (15 minutes), while those of you who’d like to give paintballing, archery or miniature golf a try might also like Heatherton World of Activities (15 minutes). As well as huge dinosaur figurines, Dinosaur Park (15 minutes) has go-karting activities and adventure playgrounds. Animals are part of the attraction at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (10 minutes) or the walking safari at Manor Wildlife Park (15 minutes). For a visit to a medieval castle (and perhaps a guided tour behind the walls), check out Pembroke Castle (25 minutes).
