  • Dog-friendly rural site on a working north Pembrokeshire farm
  • A 15-minute drive from Newport; lots of local walks to choose from
  • Five minutes' drive from a popular local pub; 20 mins to Fishguard
Making your way to Pembrokeshire for walks, beaches, cliffs and countryside galore? Look to Gwaun Valley Camping, part of a working north Pembrokeshire farm in a scenic valley with native pasture land where guests can experience hands-on holidays. Enjoy a picnic by your pitch and stroll off onto footpaths and bridleways as you please. Farm life carries on as usual around you and you’re in the front-row seat. Here, you might want to track down local woodland and mountain walks or take the short 15-minute walk to the Penlan Uchaf Gardens, which are open to the public. There are streams and waterfalls nearby, as well as a pub 45 minutes’ walk away (or a five-minute drive if you’d rather give your feet a rest). There are plenty of places to taste the local fodder in the local towns and villages. If you’re particularly keen to sample the local alcoholic brews, there are two microbreweries a short drive away too. Handily, the coast isn’t far off. Fishguard, known for its seafood cuisine and fort, is 20 minutes’ drive away and there are coastal hikes and beaches within 20 minutes’ drive of the site. As this is a dog-friendly site, your canine can join you on your adventures – whatever they might be.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Peace and quiet and the location is fabulous. Our second visit and again we had the campsite to ourselves apart from one night. Some lovely walking on coast, up Carningli and in the vaey. Also great area if you like megalithic stones ;) it is a very basic campsite with one toilet and shower so wouldn't be great if much busier.

Disliked: It would be good if there was a washing up area and campers fridge facilities. Additional toile/shower would be good. However we love it here so it was not an issue for us.

Liked: Fantastic campsite, clean, small, quiet, friendly and idea if you love nature and want peace and quiet. Loads of space from other campers. The owner was a fantastic host who pointed out local things to do and see. Next time we might take you up on your offer to view the viewpoint on your quad 👌

Disliked: Could have done with a sink or wash station for cleaning saucepans, cutlery, cups, plates. Other than that, it was spot on.

Liked: Farmer Rob is very helpful and friendly - he gave us some really great tips for short hikes from the camping field and he was really attentive to any needs we had - he even saved us from getting lost and introduced us to some excellent home reared mutton and full fresh milk from the local dairy! The site is set in beautiful wooded valley, there is no noise other than birds and owls at night and the view is magical. There is plenty of room and it was a real treat to pitched up around our campfire in the evenings. There is also a small purpose built fire pit with stone seating at the site too. There are several lovely hikes form the site, a pub and a micro brewery nearby and the site is excellently located for the north Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion area. The site has an excellent and new electric shower so there is never any shortage of hot water and the facilities are good, clean and well maintained - absolutely first rate! If you go camping to play on your phone - this isn't the place for you as there is limited reception. We saw this as an absolute plus :) Many thanks Farmer Rob - we will see you again for sure! - Mae’r ffermwr Rob yn gymwynasgar a chyfeillgar iawn – rhoddodd awgrymiadau gwych i ni ar gyfer teithiau cerdded byr o’r maes gwersylla ac roedd yn sylwgar iawn i unrhyw anghenion oedd gennym – fe wnaeth hyd yn oed ein hachub rhag mynd ar goll a’n cyflwyno i gig dafad a fagwyd gartref ardderchog. llaeth ffres llawn gan y llaethdy lleol! Mae’r safle wedi ei leoli mewn dyffryn coediog hardd, does dim sŵn heblaw adar a thylluanod yn y nos ac mae’r olygfa’n hudolus. Mae digon o le ac roedd yn wledd go iawn i pitsio o amgylch ein tân gwersyll fin nos. Mae yna hefyd bwll tân bychan pwrpasol gyda seddau carreg ar y safle hefyd. Mae sawl heic hyfryd o’r safle, tafarn a bragdy meicro gerllaw ac mae’r safle mewn lleoliad gwych ar gyfer ardal gogledd Sir Benfro a Cheredigion. Mae gan y safle gawod drydan wych a newydd felly nid oes byth brinder dŵr poeth ac mae'r cyfleusterau'n dda, yn lân ac yn cael eu cynnal a'u cadw'n dda - o'r radd flaenaf! Os ydych chi'n mynd i wersylla i chwarae ar eich ffôn - nid dyma'r lle i chi gan mai cyfyngedig yw'r derbyniad. Gwelsom hyn fel mantais absoliwt :) Diolch yn fawr i Ffermwr Rob - fe welwn ni chi eto yn sicr!

Disliked: There was nothing we disliked at all.

Local attractions

If you’re not one to shy away from the bigger hikes, Dinas Mountain (15 minutes' drive) is one gorgeous setting. Keep your eyes peeled for wild ponies, red kites and buzzards as you climb. Just as active days can be had on the coast with less hiking involved. Perhaps coasteering along to the stunning Blue Lagoon (40 minutes)? Kayaking along the coast by Fishguard (20 minutes), followed by some local seafood or crab sandwiches? Fishing or beach paddling in Cardigan (25 minutes)? Historical sites are in good supply too, with the neolithic tomb at the Pentre Ifan Burial Chamber (15 minutes) and the Iron Age roundhouses at Castell Henllys Iron Age Village (15 minutes). If you’re after a ride – of one kind or the other – head for the rollercoasters at the Oakwood Theme Park (40 minutes) or Llys-y-fran Reservoir (half an hour), where visitors can captain a watersports vessel of their choosing.
