  • Peaceful, well-maintained rural Pembrokeshire site
  • Tenby, Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm within a half-hour drive
  • Part of a farm with sheep, cows, pigs and horses on site
Which side of Pembrokeshire is the one that piques your interest? The peaceful rural one that comes with the county’s cracking countryside and coastline or the family-friendly one that revolves around kid-pleasing attractions like Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm Adventure Park? It matters not for guests at Martletwy Campsite, for this site on a family farm mixes up a remote feeling with a handy location for getting out and about. This is a place that’s well away from any busy roads and yet within 15 minutes’ drive of Narberth and the aforementioned attractions. The Preseli mountains and the coast are within a half-hour drive, so you can also soak up the scenery without having to stray too far. It’s not all about leaving the place behind though – Martletwy Campsite is also the kind of place that lends itself rather well to many an hour spent on site, perhaps having a chat with the friendly neighbours (that’s the cows, pigs, sheep and horses that live here all year round) or staking out a bit of space for a barbecue of an evening. There's a vineyard within walking distance if you fancy a little local tipple to go with your alfresco dinner (just a suggestion…) Facilities have been kept to a minimum here to preserve the quiet rural vibe, but guests will have access to chemical disposal and a smart new toilet block with large showers and hot running water.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We’re just back from a fantastic 5 nights at Martletwy campsite. Even before we arrived Abi was so accommodating, answering my many many questions via email and ensuring us that my 5 year old non verbal autistic son would be safe and that we could pick the most suitable pitch for our family. When we arrived we weren’t disappointed, the campsite is well laid out with 2 sets of well looked after facilities, the views are fantastic and the animals wandering around are lovely. The kids fed the pigs and the ponies and chatted to the chickens and the geese. The site is well positioned to get to lots of fantastic beaches and the town of Haverfordwest is close by for the shops. We will definitely be back, we’ve found a gem of a campsite 🏕️

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The farm animals, the children enjoyed visiting these, also the table tennis table was great.

Disliked: The lack of on site lightening, making a nighttime walk to the toilets hair-raising and somewhat dangerous. The showers were not always hot. The temperature seemed intermittent and inconsistent. The shower blocks also didn’t seem finished off to a standard you would expect for £40 a night. The pitches were also uneven.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Generous sized pitches, although not all flat. The hard standing service pitches seem flatter and have a better view. Tranquil location only 5 minutes for Oakwood park. Lots of farm animals, which children enjoyed visiting daily. Undercover table tennis. Fridge freezer and undercover dish wash area.

Disliked: Access road into the site very uneven/pot holes. Toilet/shower block needs finishing. The shower temperature/ water pressure are intermittent. Water pressure to fill water containers is also very poor - takes forever to fill water butts. Lack of lighting - hard to navigate to the toilet block at night. Recycling available but no bins for general waste, have to dispose of own rubbish or pay £2 per bag. Felt that for £40 per night this should be included.

Local attractions

Why is Pembrokeshire such a popular part of the world for family holidays? Well, that would be the extensive list of attractions – enough to keep even the most energetic of nippers busy for many a day. The very closest of these are Oakwood Theme Park and the Blue Lagoon waterpark (both 10 minutes’ drive), and it’s only a little further to further family antics at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo or The Secret Owl Garden (both 15 minutes) or Manor Wildlife Park (20 minutes). A 15-minute drive will also get you to Carew Castle & Tidal Mill for a dip into the area’s past. It would, of course, be very wrong to skip the chance of a seaside day or two while you’re here: try Tenby (25 minutes) for a clutch of sandy beaches and wildlife-spotting boat trips or get over to Barafundle Bay (half an hour) for your chance to spend some time at a beach that frequently features on lists of the world’s finest. Something for the grownups? That previously mentioned wine spot is Cwm Deri Vineyard, 15 minutes’ walk away…
