  • Cottages in manicured gardens with a seasonal outdoor swimming pool
  • In Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh, half an hour’s drive from Bergerac
  • Within a 30-minute walk of canoeing and fishing on the Dordogne River
For river roams and Bordeaux Wine Route wanders, settle down at L'Escale en Dordogne in the Dordogne village of Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh, half an hour’s drive from vineyard-surrounded Bergerac and 30 minutes on foot from the Dordogne River. There’ll be no tent-building skills needed once you get in from touring the region – at this park, guests stay in cottages kitted out with kitchenettes, sitting areas, televisions and ensuite bathrooms with showers. Towels are provided as well, so you’ll have more room in your suitcase for all those bottles of wine you’re planning on bringing home… Where to stock up? Pick any of the vineyards dotted along the well-known Bordeaux Wine Route linking Bergerac city up with the town of Saint-Émilion, or select bottles from nearby cellar doors like Château Moulin Caresse (five minutes’ drive). For evening eats to go with a glass or two, grab goodies at the supermarket in Saint-Antoine-de-Breuilh, or pick up a picnic packed for you by the site’s friendly owners to eat next to L'Escale en Dordogne’s outdoor swimming pool (open in summertime). Those who like their swimming with a wilder edge may prefer to aim for Les Bardoulets beach, 10 minutes' drive away on the banks of the Dordogne; freshwater fishing and water-view strolls are to be had at Lac de Gurson lake, 20 minutes away.
