  • Bay of Biscay beaches 15 minutes’ drive; Biarritz half an hour
  • Indoor and outdoor pools; playground and kids’ club; launderette
Fancy exploring the French Basque coast? Maybe even popping across the border into Spain for some pintxos one day? Consider staying at Camping Lou P’tit Poun, a family-friendly site a five-minute drive from the lively market town of Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx, in the south-west corner of the Landes department. In addition to shaded extra-large pitches (and some XXLs, too), the site comes with a toilet block and showers (including facilities for disabled guests), a washing-up area and a launderette. There’s also plenty to keep the children entertained – from a well-equipped play area to a morning kids’ club where they can indulge in a spot of dough modelling or drawing and make new friends. While the adults relax on a poolside lounger with a drink from the bar, younger children can spend the day paddling around in a shallow lagoon. And if the weather’s playing up, the action can move to the indoor pool, where there are also spa areas with soothing water jets. Fancy getting a bit more active? You can hire a bike on site and explore the local area, either following the course of the Adour river on the dedicated (and largely flat) track (15 minutes by bike), or perhaps ending up at the Réserve Naturelle de Lesgau (25 minutes by bike), a watery landscape inhabited by ducks, cranes and peregrine falcons. Watersports enthusiasts will not want to miss out on the strong wave action at Plage du métro (15 minutes’ drive; you can also go by bus, which stops 50 metres from the site) and the other sandy beaches on the Bay of Biscay. Be sure to stay until late afternoon, when you will be treated to quite a spectacular sunset.

Liked: Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5) My Wife and I decided to wrap up our summer with a two-day stay at Camping Lou P'tit Poun, and it turned out to be a delightful weekend getaway. This cozy campground, nestled in the serene French countryside, offered a peaceful and enjoyable experience, even as the season was winding down. Campground and Facilities (4/5): During our short stay, we found the campground to be well-maintained and peaceful. While the pitch we had was a bit smaller than expected, it provided a cozy atmosphere for our tent. The proximity to the facilities, including the clean restrooms and showers, was convenient. It's worth noting that the grounds were still in great shape despite the end of the season. Staff and Service (5/5): The staff at Camping Lou P'tit Poun continued to impress with their warmth and hospitality. Despite it being the end of the season, they greeted us with smiles and were readily available to assist with our needs. Their dedication to ensuring guests have a pleasant stay was evident throughout our short visit. Activities and Entertainment (4/5): Although some of the scheduled activities were winding down for the season, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of options still available. We enjoyed a pleasant evening at the on-site restaurant, savoring delicious local cuisine. The pool, while smaller than some we've seen, was clean and refreshing. The quieter atmosphere at the end of the season was a welcome change for us. Location and Surroundings (4/5): Camping Lou P'tit Poun's location remains a highlight. Even as the summer season came to a close, the natural beauty of the Landes region was breathtaking. We explored the nearby forests and enjoyed a serene walk by the lake. It's a great place to unwind and connect with nature. Overall Experience (4/5): Our two-day stay at Camping Lou P'tit Poun was a pleasant way to wrap up our summer adventures. While the end of the season meant some amenities were less active, it also provided a quieter and more intimate experience. The staff's warm welcome and the campground's serene surroundings made it a memorable escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. In summary, Camping Lou P'tit Poun offers a charming retreat, even at the end of the season. While the smaller pitch size and the winding down of some activities were minor drawbacks, the overall experience was positive. If you're looking for a peaceful, nature-filled escape, this campground is a lovely choice. We left with fond memories of our weekend and would consider returning for a longer stay in the future.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: The whole site is very well designed, family run, nothing is too much trouble. Spotless throughout. All pitches offered a foliage hedge to provide privacy. Showers were excellent, washing up facility excellent and the laundry too. Never entered the snack bar and entertainment area but looked very well organised. The site is well lit but in a non-invasive way. Good hook up power and water points. Everything was 5 Stars !

Disliked: Nothing!

Liked: The whole family from the owner parents and the very hard working daughter. The whole team were excellent and went out of their way to ensure they provided an excellent service. Always available and attentive, great service that made our stay so memorable. The location for travelling to Biarritz was great. The entrance was nice and big and directly on the main route. We will return. Thank you from the family from Wales.

Local attractions

Stretching on the Adour river, the medieval town of Bayonne (20 minutes’ drive) is known for its large botanical garden, enclosed within the ancient fortifications and with a distinct Japanese flavour (think vermilion bridges and koi ponds). The Musée Basque has displays on the local culture, language and traditions. The wetlands at the Réserve Naturelle Nationale du Marais d’Orx (half an hour) attract all sorts of migratory birds, from herons to harriers. There are more winged creatures (flamingoes and colourful parrots) at Zoo Labenne (20 minutes), which is also home to wolves, porcupines and meerkats. The elegant coastal resort of Biarritz (half an hour) is well worth a visit for its beaches and a rugged promontory culminating in the Rocher de la Vierge, a rocky islet accessed by a hanging bridge. Shark, octopus and tropical fish are among the residents at the city aquarium.
