  • Pools with waterslides, sauna and hammam all free for guests
  • Play area, evening entertainment and snack bar with free wifi
The beaches of Benodet are a smashing Brittany holiday spot. How fortuitous a setting then has Camping du Poulquer, a handsomely green site only 200 metres from these scenic sands and less than a kilometre from Benodet town centre. The old fishing port of Concarneau and the mightily traditional town of Quimper are both under half an hour's drive. For splashing around on site, a stay at du Poulquer also includes free access to its fine waterpark with indoor and outdoor pools, paddling pool, waterslides, hammam and sauna – again, all gratis for guests… There’s also a play area with netted trampoline, ping pong tables and big bouncy castle for kids, and regular activities such as pétanque tournaments and disco and karaoke nights for adults and teens. Food and free wifi are sorted at the snack bar. Camping du Poulquer is also equipped with toilet blocks suitable for disabled guests, free hot showers, a launderette and a washing-up corner. Bars, restaurants, shops, a spa and a casino are a short stroll away.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet site, next to a lake, good facilities for my daughter who is a wheelchair user. Lovely food at the onsite restaurant.

Disliked: This is not a problem as such but if you wanted a baguette for breakfast you had to order the day before. That's the only negative I can think of lol

Non-electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The campsite was beautiful. We loved the flower beds around the pool and the many mature trees around the site. We really liked the pool and slides. The children enjoyed the trampoline. The campsite was very relaxed and friendly and we had a great stay.

Disliked: It would have been good if the campsite provided toilet paper and soap in the toilet blocks.

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Good sized flat pitch, in the shade :) 4 swimming pools, 3 outside: warm water, paddling pool and slides pool, nice and clean; indoor pool, steam sauna and dry sauna, nice and clean. Pools were clean every day after closure at 8pm. On site mini shop with fresh baguettes and crossaints in the morning, 5 min walking distance to the beach, 13 min to another beach, 5 min to town. Quiet on site, lots of families with children. Showers and toilets clean but could be refreshed a bit. Friendly and helpful staff. No wifi :)

Disliked: NO TOILET PAPER OR SOAP in toilets so be prepared, you have to carry them with you each time you want to go. On site bar wasn't very inviting, we never used it. You can hear neighbouring campsite's entertainment at night

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: Les piscines avec toboggans, le club enfants et les structures de jeux qui ont fait le plaisir de nos petits-enfants. Nous étions dans un endroit calme, assez grand pour bien nous installer. De plus, proximité appréciable du centre ville.

Electric grass tent, touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We really enjoyed our time here. Bénodet is a lovely place - not loads of bars but it was very pretty and the beach was gorgeous. The site itself was well equipped with a good park for the kids (4,8 and 9) and also two very well maintained pools with slides. There was a bar and a small snack selection available. The site was 5 mins walk to the beach. The owner was lovely and very helpful.

Disliked: The shop wasn’t very well equipped - but we could get the basics.

Local attractions

Spas and sands are the main order of leisurely business around seasidey Benodet: the town's known as a thalassotherapy centre and four golden sandy beaches are within a kilometre of Camping du Poulquer. As well as the beaches here, get along to Plage des Dames and the Plage des Sables Blancs for serene sunbathing, or take a ferry to the nearby Glénan Islands. Among the many other Finistère and Brittany options easily reached from Benodet is Concarneau, the third biggest fishing port in France which has an Old Town on a rocky island just off the coast, a fishing museum and a fine indoor market selling fish (mais oui), fruit, veg and other local produce. Another must is Quimper, the old Brittany town where you'll still see women in traditional Breton dress (and head coverings), among the cobbled streets and half-timbered buildings. You could also take a look at the port town of Pont-l'Abbé, with the remains of its 14th-century castle as well as the Bigouden Museum also showcasing traditional dress and headpieces, or the village of Locranon. For outdoorsy antics, hike along the 12-kilometre circular trail through the forest of Bois de Névet, looking out for deer, foxes, badgers and buzzards along the way.
