  • Under 10 minutes' drive or 20 minutes canal bike ride from Rennes
  • Large pitches in the centre of a forest park with over 250 acres
  • Play area, pool, mini golf and treetop adventure; dogs allowed
For those who have not yet had the opportunity to visit Rennes, it would be wise to consider a stay near this captivating city. Stroll through its ancient streets and Place Sainte-Anne, tuck into fresh produce at the local market, explore the Musée de Bretagne and of course, taste the authentic cider and delicious Breton pancakes. Even if you have already explored Rennes, staying at Camping des Gayeulles in Ille-et-Vilaine should prove to be an excellent idea, leaving you with more budget for your shopping and trying local specialties. In the centre of a forest park, the site is just four kilometres from the city; that's under 10 minutes' drive, 25 minutes by bus or even 20 minutes by bike along the peaceful Ille-et-Rance canal. Fans of physical activities can even opt for a pleasant walk to the city if they feel like it. The scenic forest setting at this park extends over 250 acres. It has a full range of facilities, including toilets, showers, disabled facilities and laundry facilities, as well as a play area. Off site but in the surrounding forest, and all within walking distance, there is a swimming pool, treetop adventure course and an ice rink for an additional cost. A lakefront restaurant is 10 minutes' walk away. The location is also very practical for travelling the Breton region. Less than an hour's drive north and you will happen upon destinations like Saint-Malo and Cancale. Fougères is just 35 minutes' drive to the southeast, and Vitré is 40 minutes' drive east. Mont Saint-Michel is also an hour and five minutes' drive north of the site. Gorgeous villages also await, including Bécherel (half an hour) and Dinan (45 minutes).

Liked: Very convenient stop overnight en route to Roscoff for the ferry.

Disliked: Only one toilet block in use (key required) and only one adult WC, though 3 showers and 3 wash basin cubicles. Fortunately no queue even though there were quite a few Van's.

Local attractions

Get to Rennes with ease, with two practical options at-hand. The C5 bus stop is just 500 metres from the site; buses zip towards the centre approximately every 10 minutes. Metro Line B is also a 20-minute walk away (around a kilometre and a half). It runs services every five minutes, adding yet more flexibility for guests to explore the city at their convenience. Once in town, the Musée de Bretagne (Museum of Brittany) is at the Champs Libres along with a science museum and a planetarium. The Thabor botanical gardens are a pleasant place for a peaceful time, as are the gardens around the university and the walks by the Canal d'Ille-et-Rance to the city’s north west. For day trips, a fine château is at Fougères (35 minutes’ drive); even small and reluctant historians should like a look at these. At Vitré (40 minutes), there’s another handsome castle, spectacularly lit up at night; again, even small travellers should like a look...
