  • Family-friendly site 10 minutes' drive from Romilly-sur-Seine
  • Around an hour's drive from the Champagne houses of Épernay
  • Waterpark with slides, miniature golf course, tennis courts and more
Pack up the family carriage and set off for a royally fab holiday at Camping La Noue des Rois. Your fit-for-a-king domain stretches over 32 hectares of gardens and overlooks a lake, with plenty of lovely shaded spots in which to relax with a glass of the local tipple (which just happens to be a sparkly little number known as Champagne – how splendid). There’s plenty to keep young princelings and princesslings amused around the park: in the absence of traditional duelling, competitive streaks can be channelled into games of tennis, volleyball or pétanque, and a playground provides further frolics. Also on the menu for their majesties are miniature golf, table football and table tennis. The crowning glory, however, is the waterpark – indoor and outdoor pools, a paddling pool and waterslides provide hours of entertainment for all ages, and there’s a goodly collection of sun loungers all around so that you can relax while keeping an eye on the aquatic revelry. Come banqueting time, you’re welcome to light up a barbecue to create your feast, perhaps following up with a sweet treat from the site’s crêperie. There’s a mini market at the park and all manner of supermarkets, bakeries and butchers in Romilly-sur-Seine, a 10-minute drive away. Restaurants and bars are in town too, or you can elect to stay in the on-site bar and let the team of modern-day jesters entertain you with bingo, discos, theme nights and other merriment. Should you have failed to procure the services of a travelling butler, a washing-up area and launderette have been provided. The toilet and shower block has accessible facilities and a baby bathroom so that all comers can be restored to full presentability for whatever entries appear in the social calendar.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Swimming Pool

Disliked: Very dated toilets, most of them either blocked or dirty. Our pitch had rubbish from previous people and old food scattered around. The site looks nice apart from that but definitely needs updating and a little bit more attention. We only stayed one night. Staff seemed nice. They have entertainment in the evening which sounded fun, didn't bother us. It's just the toilets and the pitch that make the stay less enjoyable.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: - Pool was brilliant although at times VERY busy. Our kids absolutely loved it. - Great addition with mini golf and gym area. - Lovely big private pitches. - Very well kept and pretty site with lots of ponds/lakes.

Disliked: - Not enough water mains for filling up , had to use a hose pipe at reception. - toilet blocks are very dated and only one for ALOT of pitches. Quite a walk from the pitch depending on where you are. - no toilet paper provided. (Just a warning for others as we didn’t know and didn’t have any with us!) - pool bar closed at 1pm so unable to get lunch between 1&3. (Although I know this is common in France!) - on a Tuesday night there was a disco in the pool bar. Our pitch was very close to the pool. It was so so loud with lots of shouting from people attending and noise until around 1.30am. Not great when you have young children. - Not a lot to do in the area and pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Staff really friendly, good size pitch and lots of extras included fishing lake, mini golf, basket ball, games/tv room and much more than expected. Onsite washer /dryer and toilet and showers were always clean we used the family block as they had toilet sets but all had toilet roll provided which doesn't happen that often in France. The town is about 30 minutes walk and definitely worth a visit the canal is beautiful.

Disliked: We did struggle reading the pitch numbers located on the floor but they just need repainting.

Local attractions

For a slice of history on your hols, visit the UNESCO-listed town of Provins, 30 minutes away by car, to see the citadel's ramparts and fortified gates, dungeon, old covered market and medieval tunnels. In summer, there are daily horse shows and bird of prey displays at the Théâtre des Remparts. Just outside Provins is AJECTA, the French steam museum, where you can see the collection of 14 steam locomotives and 100 or so other items of rolling stock dating back to the early 19th century. Opening times are restricted so check before you set off. Also nearby (20 minutes from the site) is the Château de la Motte Tilly, an 18th-century estate where you can take a guided tour to see how the other half really lived. Another good day out is to take the 45-minute drive to Troyes to explore the cobblestone streets of the Old Town, filled with colourful 16th-century half-timbered houses and Gothic churches, and see stained glass being made at Atelier Vinum. There’s also a fab Modern Art Museum here with an interesting collection of impressionist paintings among others. If you’re into your bubbly it would, of course, be a travesty to come to this region and not try out some of the local drinks. Épernay, just over an hour’s drive away, is one of the Champagne area’s hubs, with heaps of household names and boutique brands offering tours and tastings. First wander down the Avenue de Champagne to see some of the main Champagne houses and then take an underground tour to see some of the 60 miles of caves that have been carved into the chalk under the street; the longest are the 17-mile-long cellars of Moët & Chandon.
