Might you like to have a French stay within reach of Paris and with easy access to top French theme parks – but escape back to a peaceful base away from the hordes at night? Have it at Camping Country Park Touquin, a family-friendly campsite under an hour from the capital and 25 minutes' drive from the Disneyland and Parc Astérix theme parks. Tackle some fishing for peaceful days on site in between city jetting and rollercoaster rides: Les Étangs has a pond where monster carp of up to 18 kilos have been landed, available for guests to fish in for a small charge. There's also a sports court and a pétanque court, a playground, and a pool with a waterslide and a spacious solarium. The campsite snack bar is open in July and August for food to have on the terrace or take away; bread and pastries can also be ordered every evening to pick up freshly baked the next morning. Les Étang has three amenities blocks, one open throughout the season and two open during the main season. All have toilets, free hot showers, laundry corners and washing-up areas.

Local attractions

After much time spent at Disneyland and investigating the antics of Astérix, Obelisk and co at the theme parks, get along to Paris for a day or two, reachable from Camping Country Park Touquin in about 55 minutes by car. There's much too much to do in the city to cram it all in here/on one trip, but musts include the standard tourist spots of the Eiffel Tower, the Notre Dame cathedral and the Arc de Triomphe, as well as the hill and district of Montmartre, the Musée d'Orsay, the huge public library in the Centre Georges Pompidou, and the city's many art galleries including the Louvre. Camping Country Park Touquin is also well placed for getting to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of medieval Provins, the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte in Maincy, the town and castle of Fontainebleau, and the splendid old royal Palace of Versailles.
