  • Friendly family site less than a kilometre from the Gardon river
  • Close to the huge Trabuc caves and 45 minutes from Nîmes
  • Pool, solarium, playground, bike hire, snack bar and shop
Do you dig delving into French history of all persuasions? Come and stay at the Gard's Camping L'Olivier Anduze to be five minutes from the old commune and vintage steam train of Cévennes, within 12 kilometres of the fably vast and fably viewsome Trabuc cave, and about 45 minutes from the amphitheatre and togatastic artefacts of ancient Roman Nîmes. And yet. Your little enfants may want to say pah to all that, so how handy that L'Olivier Anduze is a family-friendly site too, with enough to do to keep all ages occupied: a pool (kids) with sun loungers (supervising parents), a playground, regular activities like pétanque tournaments and a weekly themed dinner night, canoeing and bike rides (pétanque equipment can be hired too, so give it a go while you're here). The site snack bar serves cold drinks, ice cream, fries and homemade pizza, and the food shop sells fresh local produce. Wifi is available at the free hotspot: how handy to look up the Roman history of this part of Gard, and share your newly found knowledge with your enthusiastic offspring... Please note that the pool isn't suitable for kids to be left unsupervised, as it has varying depths.

Local attractions

Long lazy days are easily had within minutes of Camping L'Olivier Anduze, at the Gardon river under a kilometre away for long lazy swims under the blue Gard sky, and at the fishing lake within about 600 metres to cast off using kit hired from the campsite team. The site's local town of Anduze is at one end of the line of the Cévennes vintage steam railway, puffing over five viaducts on its way to Saint-Jean-du-Gard via the spectacular scenery of the Gardon; this one is a bit of a must. Anduze is also known for its pottery, so potter around the workshops back in town that are usually open to the inquisitive public. The vast Trabuc cave, the biggest in the Cévennes, are also a bit of a must, to see the biggest network of underground passages in the region, blue lakes, waterfalls and – get the camera and flash ready – a carpet of about 100,000 stalagmites all standing solemnly together. About 35 kilometres away is the Roman city and ancient amphitheatre of Nîmes, half an hour's drive from the huge Pont du Gard aqueduct built in Roman times to carry water 50 kilometres to the city from the spring at Uzès: again, these are very much musts… If you fancy days on the sands or in the city, the beaches of Le-Grau-du-Roi as well as the city of Montpellier are just over an hour's drive away.
