  • Family-friendly villa site in the village of Saint-Christol
  • Several vineyards and wineries within walking distance
  • Pool, hot tub, sauna, hammam, gym, indoor lounge and library
All who sup from the nectar of the vine, gather at Domaine de Bacchus. The Roman god of wine makes his presence felt here by surrounding the place with fields of vines and placing a good handful of wineries within a 10-minute walk. Younger guests can take part in a fun workshop all about grape growing; if the subject of wine doesn't have quite the appeal for smaller visitors as it does for their parents, there's also a summer kids’ club with treasure hunts, sandcastle competitions, clay modelling and sports tournaments. Grownup time can be spent sunning oneself by the pool, pickling in the hot tub, working out at the gym or relaxing in the sauna or hammam at the wellness centre. For family activities, there's pétanque and table football, as well as an indoor lounge area with library, and an evening programme of family-friendly entertainment in summer. Although Bacchus has been busy around here, man cannot live by wine alone (much as he might like to try...). Handily, the village of Saint-Christol also has several restaurants, a grocery store and a couple of bakeries where you can pick up your fresh bread and pastries – all within a few minutes' walk. An even easier way to get your petit déjeuner is to order it on site the night before and have it delivered to your villa in the morning.

Local attractions

With several wineries within walking distance, it’s easy for those with even a passing interest in wine to stop by one or two for sampling and vineyard tours to learn a little about the winemaking process. Most of them have slightly restricted opening hours so check before you wander down. For something a bit more kid-friendly, a 10-minute drive from the site is the Teraventure leisure park, which has outdoor games and attractions including a maze, a treetop adventure course, pedal karts and giant inflatables. For climbing of a somewhat more ambitious nature, head to La Roque via ferrata, built in the cliffs next to the Vidourle river, five kilometres from the site. Animal life of the marine variety can be seen at the Mare Nostrum Aquarium in Montpellier, 40 minutes away – as well as all the beasties in the tanks, there are also 3D experiences and tactile ponds where you can get touchy-feely with some of the residents. Montpellier also has some fab beaches for playing games, taking long walks, paddling or just relaxing in the sunshine.
