  • Well-maintained site in Amélie-les-Bains, close to the Tech river
  • A 15-minute walk from medieval Palalda; 15 minute's drive from Céret
  • Public pool, golf course and spas within walking distance
In the market for a place where your car can have a holiday at the same time as you do? Make tracks to Camping Amélia, a handily located site in Amélie-les-Bains, close to the Tech river and within easy reach of all the town’s amenities. This is a place where it’s a fine idea to leave the car behind for a little while and head out on foot, as it’s just a short 10-minute stroll to get to the town centre’s shops, restaurants and attractions such as the cinema, casino, swimming pool and golf course (although there is an urban shuttle that stops in front of the site and runs around the town if you prefer to be chauffeured…) It’s the word ‘Bains’ that’s the most important one in the Languedoc-Roussillon town’s name, for this shows that it’s a spa town, and a stay here will put you close to soaks in health-giving thermal waters (perhaps as a reward for all the walking… which can also take you off to medieval villages if you’re up for striding beyond the town). Alternatively, skip the walking and spend a bit of time making use of the site’s facilities – there are games of pétanque and table tennis to play, plus games for the kids and wifi around the reception area (where you can also pick up cool drinks and ice). Bikes can be hired on site for further explores, and cleaning up after outings can be done at the launderette and the smart modern bathroom block (with heating to keep it toasty in the cooler months).

Electric gravel and earth pitch

Liked: Lovely friendly site, good value for money. On Easter Sunday a fantastic paella was served up to all with wine and dessert for 12 Euros which very pleasantly whiled away a very wet windy day! Good sized pitches and very helpful at reception. The town was within easy walking distance and Palalda , although a bit if a steep climb, well worth the effort. Nice cycle route and good hiking.

Disliked: As with so many French sites, the toilets were basic with no loo paper or hand washing facilities.

Fully-serviced gravel and earth pitch

Liked: The site was a great location to visit the nearby villages. The owner was fabulous, she was so helpful spoke perfect English and helped us with the site and a loan of a waste pipe 💕 The pitches are good size and the site has good facilities- showers, laundry, waste for Motorhomes, chemical toilet area etc. A bus stop literally outside the campsite to travel but we used our Ebikes to get around and had no problems.

Disliked: I appeared to be a nice snack for the local insects so I’d recommend a good repellant 👍

Fully-serviced gravel and earth pitch

Liked: Quiet site, nice views across to the surrounding hills. Loved seeing the wild boar wandering through the site at night. Great walking straight from the site. Maps available from the very helpful Tourist office in Amelie Les Bains.

Disliked: An onsite shop would be useful although there is an Aldi within a 5 minute walk. Have to take own toilet roll when using the facilities which is fine once you know. No hot water on last day of our stay so we had cold showers.

Liked: Proximité thermes

Disliked: Manque de douche (en panne), pas d'entretien des emplacements, invasions de sangliers chaque soir et terrain couvert d'excréments le matin

Recommend to friends Visit again

Local attractions

Get set to stretch those legs plenty on a stay here: you can walk to a public swimming pool in about 20 minutes, or to the treetop trails of the Forest Aventure park. A golf course and horse riding centre are about 25 minutes away on foot, and all your efforts at any of the above can be rewarded with a warming soak in the thermal spa (20 minutes’ walk). Go beyond the town’s boundaries and you can amble up to the medieval village of Palalda in around 15 minutes for a wander through flower-filled cobbled streets, a visit to the post museum and a peek inside the pretty churches. Retrieve the car for the 15-minute drive to Céret if you fancy adding a second ancient village to the list.
