  • In the Vosges mountain range adjacent to a nine-hectare lake
  • Plenty for kids including play area, kids' club and bouncy castle
  • Games room, snack bar, restaurant, bike hire and fishing
Mountains, lake, hiking and skiing… and if you're feeling faint at the thought of any of that, there's also rather a lot of wine. All is at Camping du Lac de la Moselotte in the Ballons des Vosges Regional Nature Park, right next to a big and clear blue nine-hectare lake for swimming and watersports, and a top jumping-off point for local ski resorts. And it's also within easy reach of the Alsace wine region for lazy eves back at base thoroughly sampling local Riesling, Pinot Gris and Gewürstraminer… All manner of water and land activities are available right at the site, as the leisure centre at the lake lays on a wide range of both, including facilities for table tennis, bowling, beach volleyball, rock climbing, canoeing and kayaking. There's also evening entertainment at the centre in July and August. Camping du Lac de la Moselotte covers 23 handsome hectares, close to the Vosges town of Saulxures-sur-Moselotte and about 15 kilometres from the Ballon d'Alsace, site of the first ever mountain climb of the Tour de France. Among its facilities and services are fishing, bike hire, a pétanque court, a games room, a play area with bouncy castle and a summer kids' club. There's also a restaurant with a terrace by the water, and a snack bar with takeaway dishes. Bread and croissants can be ordered from reception for the next day.

Local attractions

If you ever leave the lake and its leisure centre, other active days out in the area are the hikes and walks around La Bresse and Ventron, both 15 kilometres away, and Remiremont within 20 kilometres. The nearby ridge road has spectacular views of the surrounding area in summer if you want to have a picworthy stroll. About 15 kilometres from local town Saulxures-sur-Moselotte is the mighty mountain of the Ballon d'Alsace, at the corners of the regions of Alsace, Lorraine and Franche-Comté.  Alpine and cross-country skiing tracks are both available here; for views, the Vosges and Alps mountain ranges can be seen from the mountain's top, along with Germany's Rhine Valley and Black Forest. Colmar about 50 kilometres away is a good and scenic option if you want to see old Alsace: start off at its Old Town and handsome houses lined up along the river, then wander around the tall houses of la Rue de Tanneurs, and potter along to the fishermen's quay and the thirteenth-century Dominican convent. An adventure park, bungee jumping, paragliding and fly fishing are all nearby.
