  • Friendly family-run site a short walk from the river Tarn
  • Less than an hour's drive from medieval Albi
  • Swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and restaurant
Green by name, green by nature… oui, verdant indeed is the outlook at Domaine L’Écrin Vert, a friendly family-run site on the edge of the little village of Lincou. The surrounds here are ripe for chilled days of gentle activity, with fields and forests to amble around and the Tarn river a mere couple of minutes’ trot away for riverside strolls, fishing, canoeing and swimming. If you fancy venturing out for the day, it’ll take you an hour or so to get to Albi to potter around its museums and medieval centre, or to Millau to gawp at the tallest bridge in the world. And if you don’t fancy venturing out for the day, there’s plenty to amuse those who stay put – fling balls about at the table tennis, pétanque and table football perhaps, or settle in for leisurely hours of lounging by the pool, baking in the sauna or bubbling in the hot tub. There’s not even any need to roam very far for refreshments – the site’s restaurant will gladly furnish you with ice creams, snacks and drinks and serves up a tasty range of pizzas and salads to be munched on the terrace or taken back to your own little patch (or perhaps off to the riverbank for a très scenic picnic?)

Local attractions

Bring a bike, hire one on site or set out on foot to explore your surrounds – there are easy paths galore nearby, including woodland walks and riverside rambles. Prefer to survey the land from the water? The Tarn river is just a couple of minutes’ walk away, and canoes can be hired nearby to paddle at your own pace. Albi, just under an hour away by car, is worth a trip – it’d be easy to spend a whole day here, roaming around the traffic-free medieval centre, visiting the 13th-century cathedral (look closely to see thumbprints in the handmade bricks) and admiring the art at the Toulouse-Lautrec Museum. Also around an hour away is the Millau Viaduct, the world’s tallest cable-stayed bridge – a short hike into the hills gives ace views of the towering structure. Bit of a long way to go just to see a bridge? The town itself is a good place for a wander and a meal, and the surrounding Grands Causses Regional Natural Park is full of great walks and vistas.
